Thinking about rooting just to get the emoji fonts

I don't plan on installing a custom ROM and I have a 2 year accident/malfunction replacement plan where they simply reimburse me the cost of the phone if anything happens to it. They don't even require me to send the phone first...as soon as they get a UPS tracking number, I get a Walmart gift card in my email. I actually already used it once.

If I ever do have to use the replacement plan again, I'm betting that they wouldn't even check to see if it's rooted since I would still have the stock factory ROM. Even if they did, the worst they could do is blacklist me from getting the plan on future phones, I know they wouldn't sue me over $100 plus tax lol.

I read here that has been successfully done and it seems fairly easy. The instructions are here.

I want opinions is it worth it or not? I just want to do it for my wife who REALLY wants emoji but she doesn't like any of the SMS alternatives.

They can, and probably will, charge your credit card for the price of the new phone. They may have you charged with insurance fraud (since that's what it is - you voided the terms, then collected).

Oh, they'll check the phone for custom ROM, custom recovery and rooting. Probably before they check for water damage.

If you want to modify a phone, go ahead, but be willing to accept the responsibility (and cost) if something goes wrong.

They couldn't charge my card because they don't have it on record. It was a one time payment at Walmart when I bought the phone. However, I've decided it's not worth the risk because with my luck something would go wrong! She will just have to deal with the green android smileys lol.
