Root Thinking about ROOTING...

my friend has been telling me for weeks that i should root my orig droid

i was just wondering how to go about this and what will it do to my phone and whatnot

I would suggest reading http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...t-guide-updated-march-15-2011-9-58pm-cst.html for starters. So much information in that thread, it will explain to you what you can expect to see from rooting your phone.

It helps if you have some knowledge of linux, but it is not necessary to be a linux geek to root your phone. The linux geeks have made it pretty easy for the non-geeks to be able to do it, as long as they can read and follow directions. Following directions is key- there are no shortcuts. If there were shortcuts, the geeks would have already incorporated them ;)

Also ask questions if you don't understand something. I know I must of asked a ton before I rooted my droid. People will answer them for you as they want you to experience the joys of rooting and would hate to see you mess something up because you didn't understand.

Exactly, for every one person who says "hey, I will just Google that for you" and other rudeness, there are a dozen who will happily help each newbie turn, answering the same questions and walking you through any problems you may face (including some responding in this very thread . . . ). Great community.
