Thinking about the S3 is it Better than the iPhone 4S

Oh really? That's not good. Sorry I had no idea! I've not used it but apparently it's really good and so simple. How did you find that out? I presumed anything on the Play store was international?
Try locating it on the PLAY store here in the United States. Not there.
The best syncing Software that Samsung has for the Android and Mac is not available yet in the United States.
I do hear it's coming. I think, perhaps, October. Now that information is second-hand. My friend has an S3 and he has been reading up on it.
I just can't pony up $30 or more for software to do these tasks. And, most of the software is buggy with the Galaxy S3 as I have tested many of them.
If anyone has found a proven piece of software that connects to the GS3 without hesitation and doesn't crash, please let us know.
In the meantime, I'm just going to wait for the Samsung software to be made available.

Try it and see if it works for you. It's the closest thing there is to the official Samsung app that is in the UK.

I have a rooted phone. Just installed the app.
It works! It tricks the phone into thinking it's connecting to any country's App Store.
Was able to download install the Easy Phone Sync App. It's basically the exact same software (same company) as Easy Phone Tunes. Keeps crashing on my iMac.

That stinks. I have about 1500 songs and 1000 photos I must have on the GS3 and I'd like to have a syncing program similar to iTunes to sync the Samsung. I don't mind paying for a syncing program that would work flawlessly with my library and Mac. Any good suggestions on what program to use ? I can't see myself manually transferring all that data to the GS3. I want the GS3 bad, I just can't lose the convenience of smooth, accurate syncing.

Just get iSyncr. Easy peasy. There are other apps that make it simple as well.

Yea, it's a paid app. Remember tho you can use it for 12 hours and still get a refund I believe. There's also a "light" version.

Actually, the Play Store refund period is 15 minutes unless iSyncr has their own.

Just installed iSyncr for Mac.
The good news is that it works....at least for importing iTunes music over. I didn't try photos and I don't know if it supports it.
Here are directions to keep in mind...
You need to go into SETTINGS on your phone go to the bottom to DEVELOPER OPTIONS and make certain USB DEBUGGING is unchecked.
Also when you first plug in your USB cable to your phone, immediately pull down the notification screen, click on USB CONNECTION and make certain it is mounted as an MTP Media device.
Lastly...
I don't quite like the way it organizes the music. It puts it in a folder called iSYNCR rather than Music. This may not be a big deal to most that don't have music on their device already in the Music folder.
Directions:

Once you open it, put your email in and it will mail you a link to the desktop software
Download and install desktop software.
Go to Mac -> Applications and open iSyncr.
You will see an icon in your top toolbar. If your phone is plugged in you should see: GT P7310. Click on that.
iSyncr will scan your iTunes. You can now import whatever playlists you would like.
Note:
The standard Android music player does not recognize .m4a files. These are files produced by lossless ripped CDs in your iTunes collection.
Download a great music player called JetAudio Basic. It recognizes music in that format.

A word of caution; I am not any sort of expert. my phone is strictly business; I get on these forums periodically to learn and for problems - I seldom can help anyone. I am a refugee from Sprint which was really too unreliable for business in my area; I went to AT&T and from the Motorola Photon to the S3.
My Mac is my business computer; I found it easy to use my Missing Sync app on the S3 for syncing; just downloaded the app to the S3 and paired to the Mac; I had already purchased MS for the Mac a year or so back to use with the photon. Works great on wifi but not on USB for me.
I transfer files across using "Android file transfer"
I also can tether when I need to using Easytether.
I was actually amazed they all worked; even more amazed I figured it out myself.

WOW. Works great.
Once you connect your phone to your Mac via USB you just need to go to the notifications pulldown on the GS3, click on the USB CONNECTED notification and put it into CAMERA mode (as opposed to Media Mode) for this to work.

For those struggling with syncing hogTunes.
Would it not be easier to actually organize your libraries yourself and ditch the whole syncing concept? I understand some stuff, but what do you need a 3000-photo album collection on your phone? I know that on iOS you had no file structure and it was not possible to do anything without hogTunes, but Android is different. You can put everything where and how you want it. You will spend some time organizing everything, but in the end it will be very rewarding.
Right now, the moment hogTunes stops working you are f***d. If you have your own library organized, you do not depend on ANY software. You can still use FTP, WiFi etc., etc., to use put stuff on your phone, but you decide, not some mindless machine inside your computer.

I used Missing Sync years ago for my Blackberry 9000 before RIM came out with their own desktop manager. It worked well for music transfer. I will check out their website and look for reviews for GS3 syncing. I ideally would like to use the Easy Phone Sync android app that was mentioned.
Before I go spend $550+ for this phone, I want to have a solid plan for file transfers. This forum is awesome ! Thanks for all the advice !
The S3 is a great phone and I went from a iPhone 4s to this S3 (got 400 cash for my used iPhone on eBay). I love everything about it except one thing. Gaming options. Other than emulators the difference between the iOS and Android gaming is vast. If you are a guy who bases his phone choices on games, the iOS is still light years ahead of Android. It is not even close. Otherwise for everything else you got yourself a great phone.
I'm not really into gaming so I believe Android (GS3) will be my future device. As long as I can get the syncing with iTunes / Mac solved before I purchase, I look forward to getting the phone very soon.
