Thinking of getting a 4g Motion need help!

I got some questions

1.If I get the 40 dollar plan from Metro PCS after 500 mbs it says they will reduce my data speeds. What will they reduce my data speeds too? 3G? 2G?

2.If I get the 60 dollar plan from Metro PCS can I download foxfi for my motion and use it to connect my laptop to my motion to surf the internet at 4G LTE speeds unlimited?

thank you soo much :-):smokingsomb:

They will throttle you down to whatever their lowest speeds are.

As far as #2 goes I dont see why it wouldnt work but dont quote me on that. Someone else will have to answer for sure.

Sincarafan is correct on #1, you will get throttled to 3G, but I've heard tell it's slower speed 3G.

Officially, you aren't supposed to wireless tether on the $60 plan. There are a lot of threads talking about this; if you try to use it as your sole source of internet you are basically stealing. Officially, Metro wants you to tether on your limited plan ($40 & $50 plans) so that you only do it every so often, and not for long periods of time. Anyway, there are also threads talking about people doing it and changing the user agent on the desktop/laptop browser, so it can be done.

Edit: Oh, and welcome to the forums. This is a great place to be.

You get throttled to less than 3g speeds. You can then access the Motion's hidden menu and select Just 3G and you'll get somewhat higher speeds (closer to 3G) than what you were throttled to.

As I understand it, if you pay the $10/month Hotspot fee, you can tether with Metro's blessing to your PC or there are ways to tether Without the Mothership's blessing that involve changing the user agent of your PC to make it appear to be a Motion instead of a PC. No matter which of those ways you go you will Still bump up against the Metro soft cap of 50-60 Gb. I think it is pretty well understood that IF you tether and attempt to make your phone your Full source of Data for your PC you Will Likely end up getting throttled pretty consistently each month you do.

[EDIT] I didn't see Alfick's reply til after I'd hit send. I think he is correct that you can only get the $10 Hotspot feature on the $40 and $50 plans, not the unlimited $60 one.

how fast is 3g exactly is it 56k speed?

this is my speed now on my home internet :-( I have crappy clear internet lol

I'm surprised you only get 56k. I have clear also and get about 1.5 Meg on average. My plan says up to 6 Meg, but I don't know that I ever reach that. But, to answer your question, yes, the throttled 3G should give you faster speeds than that.

Edit: I decided to do some speed tests on my computer and I'm getting faster than I thought. I'm actually averaging between 3 & 4 Meg downloads. I even hit a couple of 8 meg speeds.

im thinking of getting the 50 dollar metro pcs plan and then get the 10 dollar hotspot and then cancel my clear internet what do you think ?

IMO, paying actual Money for speeds that low is a bad idea.

Thinking your phone is going to substitute for your home internet is an Even Worse Idea.
