Help thinking of rooting

raqfox

Newbie
My camera recently crapped out, it won't open anymore and always force closes right away. I have been thinking of rooting with a new rom. Will rooting fix the camera issue or should I first investigate a replacement unit?

You could get a replacement from VM (shouldn't be any hassle with that).

What you can also try is root, install Clockworkmod Recovery, and flashing a stock nandroid backup (check the sticky about rooting). If it is software related, then it should fix the camera.

Here is the LG Camera app from the market (free). I don't know if it needs root to work (it doesn't specify) but it's a nice app especially if you'd like to have the led for recording video in the dark. Give this a try before rooting.

If you're going to flash a new rom, you don't need to root, just follow the steps. CM7 reloaded kind of gives you a whole new better phone, and is fool proof if you do it exactly like instructed. When you're done, you have an unlocked phone. If you just root, you get an unlocked phone that will load apps that need root access, but nothing else really changes

ok, thanks everyone. I think I am going to get a replacement since I am pretty sure the hardware is the problem. Then, the new ROM :)

Try another cam app, could just be buggy software

Even if it is buggy software its still a manufacturer error. You shouldn't have to install custom roms or third party apps to have them work. They should work properly right out of the box.

Its funny too, cause the camera worked fine until i played around with the front camera. I switched it to the front camera (for the first time since getting the phone in Nov.), then back to the back camera. Then, I opened Camera Zoom FX to play around with it and when it opened the picture was displaying sideways. When I turned the phone sideways, the display was right side up. I closed it down and ever since the camera, stock or otherwise, doesn't open. The led doesn't light up when I open my flashlight app either. So, hardware is fried now.
