Help Third Party Camera

I have a few questions about Android cameras. Will third party camera apps utilize the full quality of the camera on board? ie will you get just a good a picture from a camera app on the app store as you will using the stock camera app? Not just after fiddling with all settings too but with an auto type mode for quick pics.
Also are there any suggestions for a decent camera app? For some reason my new phone you can't turn the shutter sound off. Highly irritating if taking a picture at work or in a resteraunt or something and you get the almighty shutter sound breaking the silence.

Yeah I've heard that. I'll have a play around after work, I think it's only Notification or Media or something. Just a bit of a pain to remember to turn the volume up and down to take a picture.
I've already downloaded FreeDCam but not had a proper play around with it yet, looks very complicated lol.
Do any of the camera apps make any difference to the quality or will it still be the same as stock camera app just taken with a different UI?
