Third time wasn't a charm

El Presidente

Beware The Milky Pirate!
I have pretty shitty luck with the G4 - 3 days after typing this, my 3rd G4 is bootlooping. :(

My network are pretty cool and asked if I wanted an early upgrade, but the only thing that interests me at the moment is the Pixel XL. However, I'd need the 128GB variant which would cost a bit up front and an increased monthly outlay but Mrs Presidente is being made redundant at the end of the month so we need to tighten the purse strings not widen them.....

Anyhoo, my 4th G4 is being delivered at some point between 1PM and 5PM tomorrow.

This is easily the most unreliable phone I've ever owned.

ouch!

my feelings go out for you and her. life just ain't fair...

I visited with my cousin today, first time I have seen her in 55 years.... high school class reunion got us back together.
she is ready to "pack it in", scoliosis, legs paralyzed, can't get out of the house anymore, etc....

Tell me about it. We shouldn't be too bad (she has a part time job too), but it will make Xmas and the following months difficult. Thanks though.

Sorry about your cousin. :(

Oh, damn, that was a message that i really didn't want to read. This will be my third.Fingers are crossed. I just want it to last until June and I can upgrade without any hassle. The real shame of it is, is that I really like the phone and have enjoyed using it. I'm afraid that i'm going to go back to Samsung again, unless something new comes out this spring.

It's not something I wanted to type either! I have mixed feelings about the phone, I hate the battery life and how unreliable it is, but the screen is amazing and I don't think the camera has taken a bad picture. That being said, if it happens again, EE have told me the early upgrade option will still be there so I'll just take see if they'll do me a better deal on the Pixel XL.

What was the serial number on the failed G4?

507, both previous failures were 506s.

New phone is 609 so hopefully that's definitely one of the "safe" ones.

Yikes, my replacement unit arrived a couple of weeks ago. It is a 506. Other than the bootloop this is a great phone. But if it fails again I plan to dump it for something else.

I agree, the phone is terrible, I can't believe they are still allowing to send them out, should be an automatic upgrade to G5 or something after all these issues. I'm on my third and not wanting to have to go through the replacement process again.
They have really disappointed me with this phone. Like you say, great camera etc but battery is abysmal and the bootloop issues are ridiculous

Oh dear, can't remember if this is the fourth or fifth time now but another bootloop. Phone just hung up this morning then stuck in bootloop. Tried reflashing my ROM and went to demigod mode and now it just boots into recovery, don't know if I can tell EE that it is bootloop now with it not even getting that far. can't restore backup or reflash, this phone has been just constant problems

As daft as this sounds, my 2nd was doing the same. I read somewhere sticking it in the fridge for half an hour would normally allow it to boot and stay awake for half an hour or so meaning you could get your stuff off it.

It's not something I'd ever normally recommend, but it worked for me. I put it n the fridge for half an hour whilst I had LGUP and a kdz file prepped on my PC to flash as soon as I took it out.

Do you have EE insurance or are all of yours regular warranty returns? If the former, state it's a known issue and say you're getting a little pissed with the stupid amount of returns you've had and they should offer you an early upgrade (or at least waive the £50 excess).

Yes I did read that somewhere, was thinking about giving it a go tonight. But I've tried booting again now and it's just doing the bootloop again now. I think most things are automatically backing up to Google etc now anyway (pics mainly, other stuff not too bothered about really).

All returned through EE. I'll probably push for an upgrade or something as it really is a ridiculous isse. They actually said last time that they had to change the excess to £75 too. I'll give them another call shortly and see what happens...

Spoke to a nice lady and she couldn't give me a different phone as her manager was there but she did waive the excess. Replacement just arrive, 610...fingers crossed no issues with this one...

Haha, that's what I was thinking, I would be quite happy to cut my losses with LG and go for a nice pure experience...or something new, perhaps it will hold out until the next batch of new phones come out...
