this didn't sound right - are grandfathered nationwide plans being phased out?

i have a single line with an upgrade available. i'm looking to upgrade before thurs to keep my unlimited data.

right now i have an old nationwide 300 minute talk plan (with unlimited data and $5 text plan). the sales rep told me i could keep this now - but in 2 years when i upgrade next time i'll have to get rid of it and moved to the new shared data. he's wanting me to switch plans now to a 450 minute talk plan and the 2gb / $30 data plan saying in 2 years i'll be able to grandfather that but not what i currently have.

that sure didn't sound right to me. i've not heard of this - let alone i don't think anyone knows what verizon will do 2 years from now...

Well, he's partly right. The way they have their new plans set up, if you upgrade after of 6/28 you'll be "upgraded" to unlimited phone minutes and texts. The 2GB data plan is the cheapest they offer for smart phones I believe. Now will that be the same as what they offer in 2 years when you renew your contract? You crystal ball is probably as good as theirs. I'm sure they have a plan they'd like to stick to, but who know what will change it between now and then.

FYI - Here's some more information: http://androidforums.com/verizon/565757-facts-about-vzws-share-everything-plans.html

Thats not true. If you upgrade afterthe 28 you'll have to go on one of the tiered individual plans (ie the 2Gb/$30 you talked about). Your voice stays the same. Verizon has not announced any plans to phase out any existing voice plans. The sales monkey was lying to you.

I don't see anything in the training manual regarding this question. My best suggestion is to call again and speak to another CSR, and escalate until you get a firm answer.

If I recall correctly, it states in several places that you can keep your current voice plans. Again, it doesn't predict what big red will do in the future, but for now it's very clear that they voice plans are staying (for existing accounts).

Yeah, I should have specified, what I meant was I don't see anything in the training manual suggesting that certain voice plans won't be grandfathered after the Share Everything plans roll-out. i.e. nothing that tells this CSR to say what he did. :)

Antimony, I think you may be misunderstanding. Talk/text plans will more likely than not continue to be grandfathered just the same as they've been forever. UNLIMITED DATA plans, however, won't be after the new 2 year contract is up, as we already know.

OP: for clarification, unlimited data plans ate a thing of the past. If you o for a tiered plan (indiv or family), those plans will be grandfathered through any potential changes in the future. VZW's only concern is the unlimited plan many of us have.

Ok, yeah I see what you are saying. I was distracted because he was trying to transfer him to a different voice plan as well... You are correct that the unlimited data will not be grandfathered in after this 2 year contract is up... However the switch to the 450 min plan is not necessary if the OP doesn't need it. Seems like a case of upselling was mixed in with the disclaimer on unlimited data ending.

Although the OP CAN keep his unlimited data after the 2 years is up (assuming Verizon doesn't end this policy either) by not exercising a subsidized upgrade...
