No no noooooooooo. The 289 was indestructible. You could redline that sucker and it would just laugh at you. The 302 did give you a slightly higher torque/hp rating but at the expense of rpm's. Fun fact, the 289 and 302 used the same block and pistons. It was the throw of the crank that added the extra displacement. (Sorry for channeling the inner motorhead of my youth)
