This this normal for the battery?

SkielOne

Bought a Note 4 yesterday and absolutely love it! It's a dramatic improvement from my iPhone 4s, especially with the larger screen (the entire iphone is smaller than the screen, that blows my mind).

Now my problem. I'm not sure if this is normal but when I use my note 4 (games, browsing, messing with the settings) while plugged in and charging, the battery actually decreases. It's like the rate of battery draining is faster than the rate of charging when using the phone.

Also, when I left the note 4 overnight unplugged at around 2am, then woke up at 8am, the battery dropped ~13%. Is that normal?

All my settings should be default (ie. brightness, Hi Galaxy is on, etc). Data is turned off.

can you take a screen shot of the battery consumption? Usually, battery drains are caused by apps running on the background, especially games. You can use apps to optimize your battery's performance.

I've attached an aimge.

Putting to rest the myths about Task Killers/RAM Optimizers and the like

(Especially things like Battery Doctor)

http://androidforums.com/threads/pu...k-killers-ram-optimizers-and-the-like.896663/

Your media server is running very high and ought only be that way once in a while.

If it's stuck like that, go to settings, Apps, All and clear data and cache for media storage.

You will lose your ringtone settings and your Gallery will come up blank but you will lose no actual media.

Reboot phone, see the home screen, screen off and leave it alone for 30 minutes.

When you're back your mediaserver ought to be quiet and your battery problem fixed.

If not, the mediaserver is stuck in a loop trying to make a thumbnail for a corrupted picture or indexing a corrupted music file.

In that case, copy everything off to your pc, erase the media, and copy it back in chunks, see if it chokes on any files copying up and there's your culprit.

But be sure that the mediaserver is consuming power constantly.

If so, the above is your most likely path to solution.

I'll give what you said a try once i'm home but what exactly is mediaserver and whats its purpose?

I just got the phone yesterday and tried to transfer my iphone stuff to the note 4 using Smart Switch, could that be the cause?

Probably not. Maybe. Impossible to say.

A storage fault can occur on any device or computer storing data.

They're actually fairly common but the operating system (Android, iOS, Windows, etc etc etc) usually catches and corrects them so you don't notice.

Plus, magnetic and flash and optical storage all degrade.

An uncorrected storage fault can appear anywhere, anytime.

Surely you've encountered a bad media file before.

The mediaserver is the standard Android component that indexes your media for fast access and creates thumbnails and such.

All media. Your stuff, the built-in images and ringtones, all of it.

It's always been there in Android, it rarely has problems but when it does, it's because there was a storage fault.

Can someone help me too. When I sleep at night with a fully charged phone, about 9 hours later the battery has dropped to 70pc. Even when google chrome or fb and whats app are not in use they are shown as using battery under the battery usage panel. This was never an issue with my note 3. On the note 3 only 3 apps would appear int he battery usage panel. whats going on here and how to terminate these apps. I have tried almost everything, but no success
