Help Three five minute phone calls drained battery to 50%

I got my Galaxy mini yesterday (this is actually my second one; the first one I got was defective and I had to return it). I had to make a few phone calls today (about five minutes each) to firm up fourth of july plans and the battery dropped to about 50% from full charge. I'm very confused and kind of upset since I already had to return the phone once. Is there a fix for this? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for any help.

My wife's phone doesn't drain like that on calls, so this is something unique to your device.
First thing to check is to see what else is running (especially widgets) that may be draining the device.
If that doesn't work try a factory reset, don't install ANY apps and make a few calls. If the phone still drains too fast you know it's a problem with the phone and you need to take it back. If it doesn't, then you know it's one of your apps causing the problem. At that point you install them one by one and test between each install to see how it behaves.
