Three UK - Browsers?

I have the All you can eat data from the Three Network. I have recently tried the Dolphin HD browser, after a while i get my data disconnected and the only web page i can access is one telling me im not allowed to tether on my current plan, the only way to get my data back is turn my phone off for a minute then turn it back on.

here is the only page i am able to access until i reboot my phone: http://connection.three.co.uk/Tetheringblock

is there a way to stop this? will all custom browsers do this, can you recommend an alternative?

Interesting topic. I think all the Mobile companies and ISPs are robbers lol. Try Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. If necessary get Tor on Android and it's browser, Orweb (if I remember rightly).

The only thing I can think of is that 3 UK are doing deep packet inspection, specifically looking at the browser's User Agent String. They might be thinking they're running on a PC, rather than on a phone. As Alpha has suggested, try Opera Mini.

Presumably they're doing this to try and stop people abusing the system with unauthorised tethering, but it's coming up with false positives. Have you contacted 3, see what they have to say about it?

BTW I changed the the browser's UAS on my phone so it appears as a PC, as I want to see full websites, not cut-down mobile versions. I do actually have a pre-paid 3 UK SIM, but at 2 quid a minute....yeh right!!

Opera appears to work so that is an alternative.

I have been in contact with 3, first i went to customer services, 3 days later i was called by the "second level support team" and now they told me, sometime in the next seven days i will be called by the "tech genius team". The tech genius team is going to make changes to my account to rectify this error, I will report back once i have talked to them. Supposedly this is a common problem with dolphin browser and another app called "atorrent"

Same issue here. If i use dolphin browser i get the tethering block page from three. I don't know what exactly they are looking for in data packets since i have not changed the user agent in dolphin's settings. I've left it at default.

i called their cc and have been told that i'd get a call fro their tech team in the next 48 hrs.

So after talking to their genius team I was asked to reproduce the error, which I happily did, waited 2 days for a reply where they told me to uninstall the application as it is 3rd party and they are unable to offer support for it . I said this was not acceptable as the fault causing the block is on their end. They asked me to reproduce the error again and would call me back in two days.
On that next callback they informed me that they added my device to a whitelist so I would no longer receive this error. So far so good, no problems.
