Root Throttled 4g?

I seen someone on a different post talking about this throttle 4g stuff.... Someone please explain..

Also, i ran out of my 4g for the month and stuff loads kinda slow... Would it be fast if I just ran my 3g all the time now until I pay my bill?

Your with Metro? If so I've never had throttling issues. I would use over 30gigs a month on tether. Speeds up to 1mb/sec in the Atlanta area.

not sure how t-mobile is working it now that they bought metro. When Metro was it's own entity, if you were on their lower cost plans, Once you hit your data ceiling they would than throttle you down to 3g speeds.

If you pay your bill, it isn't going to bring your speed back up until your new month comes along anyways. You'll just have your next month paid in advance.

I always go over my data ($40 plan). I always go over my data and they always throttle me lol. No big deal, just deal with it, there's really nothing you can do unless you pay for an unlimited plan.

I don't reqlly understsnd your guys answers. Your saying they throttle it yet it goes to 3g? How is that throttling it?

None of you guys never switch your network to Cdma/evdo in the network select when you run out of 4g data?

What's not to understand?

If you have the $40 plan you'll get 500mb of data at 4G speeds for the month. If you use your 500mb of 4G before the month is over, then you'll get throttled down to 3G or 1X (depends which is available in your area) speeds for the rest of the month till your next billing cycle, at which point your 500mb of 4G will start over.

Each plan has a different amount of 4G speeds for the month...
$40 = 500mb
$50 = 2.5gb
$60 = unlimited

Well i didn't understand because normally throttled means pick up, not speed down. I know the data rates for the month, just didn't fully understand anyones answer. Do you have an opinion about my 3g response?

"Throttled speeds" are a common term in the world of mobile devices.

Regarding your 3G question... I would leave it as is. It will switch on it's own to 3G or 1X depending on which of these networks is stronger in the area you're in.

Regarding other question, I don't switch my networks since I'm on the unlimited plan.

Makes sense. Random tho, I was testing and a certain moments my cdma/evdo was faster, or at least when I was using instagram it loaded faster, but I just changed it back to normal so idk. Ill just be upgrading ky plan to unlimited and I guess I wont need to worry about that anymore

If you change it to CDMA/evdo it will run faster than throttled 4g. When they throttle 4g it goes down to 2g speeds. CDMA/evdo gives you 3g speeds.

I have unlimited $55 4g data plan and I only get 1-5Mb in Sacramento area

Same here but I'm in Ennis Texas is because I'm assuming your still on CDMA/LTE (because this is a CDMA phone) your speeds of your lucky won't go higher than 10-15mbps because of the technology we use

It just depends on the area you're in, but cdma can be just as fast as gsm. Once Metro completes the transfer to T-mobile towers by end of next year, everyone should be getting good speeds. They already did it in my area.

Before the T-mobile transfer I was getting no more than 12mbs down, but now I consistently get over 25mbs down...

It doesn't matter that it's a CDMA phone its the LTE part that matters which is the same technology in every LTE phone its just a matter of if they've combined the LTE network in your area yet.

You guys realize we haven't answered the ops question I don't think you can switch from LTE to 3g or 1x manually unless there is something I don't know

You can manually switch off LTE , doing so i believe will activate 3G or 1X if 3G is not available.

To switch networks you have to install MEID Converter from play store and in the app enter your IMEI number located under /about phone/phone identity to convert IMEI number to MSL code. Then dial ##626* in the dialer and enter your MSL code when prompted. Now scroll down to network mode and you can change it from there.

Note:

  • If you don't wish to install MEID converter then you can use their website found HERE.
  • This guide does not work on CM based roms. CM has it's own built-in menu to do this.

Yup, game theory has it correct as far as changing it manually like that. I just upgraded to unlimited data tjo so I wont have to worry about that anymore. I did a speed test and I'm only gettinf around 5-6mb and I seen you guys mentioning 10-12 and 25 for one I believe.... Would it be faster if I put it on LTE only or the cdma/lte auto?

LET only mode = Data on LTE Only - NO Phone Calls or SMS in/out nor 3G/1X
CDMA/LTE Auto mode = LTE when available, 3G/1X when available, Phone Calls and SMS in and out when available.

Like GT stated earlier, your speed just depends on your location. For example jlede lives about 20 minutes away from me and he is getting better speeds than I am. 10-15 Mbps and I'm stuck with 5-6 tops (better than getting KB/sec ;) ).
