Throttling to 2G rather that 3G?

You're still actually throttled. The system doesn't care if the website says yes or no, it bases it on a single line of code if.account ==throttled then rate limit device. There's no way around it, nothing on a rom can block it either. Anyways since no one mentioned it, sprint has totally unlimited with the framily plan for 45 a month when you have 7-10 people
 
There are many reasons for carriers to throttle your data speeds but only one comes to mind that makes sense...


Using your smartphone as a web gateway for surfing,video streaming,etc...is a paradox which runs contrary to what the corporate norm demands of you,the consumer.

Why use your phone for internet?...when you should already have internet access at home?. If you tether your phone to your PC/Laptop for web access that is a corporate no-no...they want everyone to slave themselves up to purchasing an internet monthly plan from ATT,Comcast.etc.

They have been monitoring data usage for some time,not just Boost. They are seeing an increase in data usage on phones then laptop users working with available WiFi connections(some free,some not so free). The point is...THEY WANT YOU TO USE YOUR HOME INTERNET CONNECTION,AND NOT YOUR PHONE

As ironic and inane as it sounds, this seems to be a closer truth than anything else.

Being given 2.3GB of data speed makes no sense at this present time. Obviously anyone with a cellphone and some computer common knowledge will immediately realize that our world at this time use way way WAY more data than just 2.3 or whatever. These companies should not limit data but provide it to all without limitations only for the clear fact that our culture and society has build up a vast global network that requires more than 2.3GB per month. This is the same reasoning as if I were to hand you an allowance of just one hundred dollars per month for rent,food,electricity,gas,car,etc...

as for me, im in Miami FL...they ,Boost, have throttled me to a measly 34kbps...and not their advertised 212kbps...the strangte thing is, on weekends i'm at 10.3MBPS from Friday til Sunday(I have used some apps that log your data usage and speeds confirm this)..

overall, its time to move to another..my logic is this, why should i pay for internet at home separately if I already have net access on my phone?...

so far, after some research on this phone and other carriers, it appears that MetroPCS is THE ONLY carrier that has a special plan just for people like myself who extensively use their phones for everything except dish-washing. Why should I be smarter than my smartphone?

They have data caps only for the first two plans, but at sixty a month(which at the present I pay about fifty-three monthly) you get "unlimited data with no restrictions. I called metro to confirm this. Not only their corporate customer service support but the local shops to see if there was any deceit anywhere.

So if I pay a little more monthly I get the full package deal that other carriers do not provide(for obvious reasons)...but the question is...why hasn't Metro fallen to the wayside like the rest?...are they next?

additionally, they confirmed that I can still keep my HTC One from Boost and have it "converted" to the metro plan with a simple SIM upgrade....hope this is true.

I am a little skeptical.

Sprint/Boost uses CDMA and is not a simple SIM upgrade possible. CDMA is not easily transferable from Sprint to Verizon, which is also CDMA. Many people have bricked their phones trying. CDMA does not use SIM cards but is 'hard coded.'

If the HTC One has a SIM card slot (very few CDMA phones are dual capable with GSM), it would still be running a Boost ROM.

I am honest, though, that I am not sure.
 
I'm willing to wait and see if it turns out to be usable. Lately it seems DNS problems have been as much or more of a problem than bandwidth.

That will change, since st also runs sprint phones on sprint towers, just like boost and vm do.

Tmobile/metro network for data is smaller than sprint and a lot more spotty for coverage. You can roam for text and voice on postpaid on att, just like you can on postpaid sprint on verizon . There is no free lunch on prepaid. Check your area before you commit your money.

check out the st forum. They have been known to cut you off for using too much per day. Also, st is owned by america movil, just like net 10, tracfone, simple mobile.

I took the time to do research before I made a decision. I don't use enough data in a month let alone a day to get cut off.

Watching one YouTube video is a violation of their TOS. Absolutely no streaming of music or video in 1 day or they may cut you off completely. It has happened to people. If you're ok with that then best of luck to you.

Metro is owned by tmobile. Tmobile also offers a full unlimited plan on there prepaid also. As far as your htc one yes technically can be done. The sim needs to be unlocked for gsm. On sprint phones this is not easy. Requires root. There is a forum on xda on unlocking the sprint htc one. It is a pain in the a@@. Also you may wanna check to make sure you will pick up all off t mobiles bands with it. Would suck if you managed to get it unlocked and found out you were stuck on the edge network. And actually apposed to what someone else said tmobiles lte network is built out more than sprints. Sprint and t mobile coverage is very close in size. T mobile will be converting all there native coverage to lte this year.

On straight talk there att sims are there strictest for data usage. There was a time they werent allowed to sell att sims because of data overuse. Not to mention theyve had a lot of network data issues with att sims on straight talk.

Really? Well that's something I didn't come across in my research. Thanks for the heads up. Most of the folks using Straight Talk in my area are on AT&T or Verizon. I will take some time to talk to the folks who are using AT&T.
 
I would like to chime in. I'm on sprint framily. I got the HTC m8 off contract, with unlimited everything and no throttle data. I pay 50 a month and 27 dollars for the device each month. It's actually a really good deal

Not a bad deal at all. For that though you need to pass a credit check to get approved for since it is still technically a postpaid service. T mobile does the same thing with there "no contract" plans. Which really is a marketing thing cuase technically there still is a contract its just on the device now not the service. Granted you can pay it off early if you want but you always could on a 2 year contract to with the etf.
 
Actually I'm 18 with credit score of 0. I was instantly approved. You just can't have ditched sprint in the past

I have an att account an verizon account and a tmobile account but still love to play with prepaid phones and services its fun to see what everyone offers. And honestly no credit or "building credit" is much better than bad credit. In some ways not scoring at all because of no credit is better than having a score in the mid 500's. Even if you havent ditched sprint you can still get a deposit required with bad credit. With that and a down payment for a phone on top of it some people just may not wanna pay that much. Ive been lookin at the framily plans though amd honestly not a bad deal at all.

You can actually bring any phone that is sprint to framily. Like the old htc one would probably run 200 or so dollars. You can activate this and pay just the plan with no credit check and no contract at all :)

I believe it is still a postpaid plan. Any postpaid plan requires a credit check. There can be a deposit on the actual service line. T mobile does the same thing with there no contract plans. There no contract but they are pospaid so even if u bring your own device they require credit and a possible deposit. With your own phone on t mobile if you require a deposit if your credits bad its usually 50 bucks on a no contract plan.
 
I just went and looked at it again and yes the framily plans while no contract are postpaid and even in the fine print says approved credit required. But yes for people who can use it it is a great option. Great prices. The only prepaid option that offers a truly unlimited unthrottled plan is tmobile prepaid and there subsidy metro pcs. Tmobile charges 80 a month for an unthrottled unlimited plan and currently that same plan on metro is 60 a month.
