Don't know if this is relevant or not, but in your security settings, is it set to encrypt your sd card?

The screenshot you posted wasn't of ES file explorer. I would download that and try to delete it with that. Some times different file browsers will give you different results.

I didn't mean to uninstall it I just ment delete the cashe and data under settings > apps... try to re omega it and see if it fixes your problems

Just tried that and got: "Cannot delete thumb: The storage is write-protected. Remove the write-protection and try again."

every single time i've gotten this error on a MicroSD card, it's meant the card was going bad. i've had to replace it every time without exception. copy all your data off of it and onto your computer, then put it on a new SD card. then delete the file from the new SD card (or before you put the data on the new SD card, order is largely irrelevant).

Thanks for all the help/suggestions. I wound up putting a new SD card in my phone. I was able to delete the thumb.db file once I got it on my computer but couldn't put the new file on the new SD card since i got the same "The storage is write-protected. Remove the write-protection and try again." message. My phone works fine. all my pix,etc are still there and now I have an additional 16GB of storage for 10 bucks.
