Help Thunderbolt wont charge. Get's REALLY HOT when on a charger

zahammy

Newbie
so my thunderbolt, which i've had since opening day is giving me huge problems. as of today it wont charge at all. when i plug it into a charger(the one that came with the phone) the light in the corner flashes red and green, but does not charge at all. Not only does it do that, it gets extremely hot, like it gets hot to where i can't hold it for longer than 10 seconds.
i tried plugging it into the computer with the cord, i also tried my Incredible charger which is the exact same, and neither work to charge it.
Any ideas of what may be wrong or how i could fix it? i have the insurance so i will go to best buy tomorrow to get a new one, however i would like to make sure this doesn't happen again with my new one.

Sorry, but I am not an expert on this, so I may be so wrong it's not even funny. I do believe that the flashing of amber and green means overheating. If that's what's happening I don't think it'll charge.

I think maybe the battery/phone has gone south and a replacement is in order.

I may be as wrong as can be though.

Get your phone replaced. There is no reason for a phone to ever behave like that unless something is very wrong. You shouldn't have to make an insurance claim - this is a warranty issue. I wouldn't even mention your insurance unless you have too.

Your new one should be fine - you just happened to get a dud - unless you dropped the phone or something like that.

You are all right. The device is over-heating. Before returning let it cool down and try to charge it again. Reason being if it charges you can figure out what app if any caused the problem. Chances are with even a new or refurbished device replacement(because I have no clue how Best Buy getz down) you are more than likely gonna reinstall the exact same apps. Probably run into the same issues or similar. Good fortune.

Yes, you are overheating. Mine happened before when I fell asleep browsing the web. It got wrapped up in my blanket and overheated. Had this happen once or twice with my DX. Hasn't happened since about a week ago though, charges fine and all. I make sure to leave it on the nightstand now when charging though. It was probably a fluke. If it starts happening on a daily basis then you should start worrying.
