That lock screen clock is both ghastly and unshiftable to anything much better. I've seen themes suggested but it doesn't seem to work much better?

if you set a permanent notification like weather, the clock style will change and permanently shift from the ghastly 2-by-2 arrangement to more conventional clean 4 digits across, like 10:25

Unsightly lock screen clocks are a big deal. You might consider returning your device to invest in a device with a better looking clock.

I just use Alarm Clock Plus and leave it on the screen all night. Problem solved

I haven't worn a watch in 15 years and I don't intend to start.

I tend not to look at my phone when I'm asleep. YMMV.
