Root Time required to root

Hi all,

I've read through the sticky about rooting the Wildfire S, and am fairly confident it's within my abilities to get it rooted.

I'm rooting purely as a way to get round to woeful low memory problem, so won't be installing a custom ROM (I can resolve it this way can't I?)

However, I still have one question:
How long will it take me to perform the root (incl backing up all data and contacts etc, updating the bootloader, but not installing a custom ROM)? Is it 20 minutes, an evening, or 6+ hours?

Thanks in advance

DaveP

If you don't need a custom rom but only want to improve memory availability sticky on the HTC Wildfire S Forum. It worked for me - but back up your contacts and messages and apps first as these will be lost.

I did it and intend to go on and root now I've gained confidence in being able to do this. Hope this helps, Dave

It took me about 20-30mins to root my phone. It shouldn't take you longer than that (Unless you have an impossibly slow PC or something) if all goes well

FYI (and anyone else that come with this question) I have just completed the rooting procedure and it's taken me about 3 hours in total.

This did however include initial backing up, reading the rooting guide several times, updating and/or installing the extra PC software required (SDK tools, HTC Sync, and getting them working), failing to unlock the bootloader the first way and having to manually flash the bootloader update, Installing ClockworkMod Recovery, flashing the root information, installing Link2SD, partitioning the SD card and re-installing some of the apps.

I do now have a rooted Wildfire S with Link2SD working and plenty of free space after installing several apps. :D :thumb:
