Ting Nexus 5

I've got two Nexus 5s on Ting, with two minor, annoying issues, and I was curious if anyone else is seeing these?

1) I live in Somerville, MA, about 3 miles from downtown Boston. Both of my phones keep selecting the wrong timezone, off by one hour, if set to automatically update the timezone from the network. I assume this is a Sprint issue with Daylight Savings Time, but I've only had the phones about a week (after DST switch), so I'm not sure. Anyone else seeing this on Ting/Sprint phones? Works fine if I get network time, but manually set the timezone.

2) Occasionally it jumps to Verizon to complete a phone call. During these times, it seems that the LTE radio cannot connect to Sprint's network, so I loose data. Rarely do I need both voice & data at the same time, but it's kind of annoying. Is there a fix for this, or is that just a hardware/radio limitation?

Overall, I'm really happy with this phone and with Ting. Sprint's network sucks compared to Verizon, but I spend most of my time in the city and within wifi coverage, so I don't feel like paying 3 times as much for the rare contingencies is really worthwhile.

The nexus 5 doesnt have Simultaneous voice and data, so unless you're on WiFi you won't have data during a call.

One of the downsides of its otherwise great radio tech.

For the time zone thing, try a prl and profile update and reboot. It'll refresh your connection to the network.

That's a CDMA thing because HSPA supports simultaneous voice and data. I've had no issues using it.

Good to know, I must've missed that when I was on T-Mobile

Ting is Sprint, so that's likely what the OP is experiencing,

The Nexus 5 does have simultaneous voice and data running on AT&T.

Yep, what I've experienced on T-Mobile is that even if you have LTE, it will automatically drop you down to HSPA when you make the call. However HSPA will support both data and voice, so you're good to go in that respect. I'm not sure if that drop happens on AT&T or not, though I imagine it does.

Bummer. I thought the CDMA/LTE radios were separate, to facilitate simultaneous voice/data. Oh well, I'll just wait until Ting rolls out their VoIP solution. That's supposedly coming out this year.

As far as the timezone thing, Ting recommended doing a PRL/profile update. That fixes things for a bit, but it'll just get screwed up again after a bit. I suspect it's DST based, since it keeps trying to set me to -5 GMT, which is EST, instead of -4 GMT, which is EDT. Oh well, that's at least fixable by manually controlling the timezone, just have to keep that in mind if I travel anywhere outside of my timezone (which is rare enough, being on the far eastern side of EST/EDT).
