Root [TIP] Installing Apps that "are not compatible with device"

I know there is already a tip on these forums covering this, but I discovered an alternative method. This is for when you want an app from the market but it wont let you DL it because it is a so called incompatible app.

So to use this method, you MUST have a different Android device that can actually download the app from the marketplace. In my case, I also have a Sony Tablet S.

So, what you do is DL the app with the device that it is compatible with. Then I go into ES File Explorer and long press on the app so you get a pop up box with a few options. Choose BackUp app. The backup will be in a folder called Backups. Inside there you will see the apk file for the app. Long press on that and another pop up box appears. Choose Share, then whatever email app you want to use. It automatically opens up the email and attaches the apk file for you. Send it to whatever email you want. Now open the email on the device you want it installed on. Next to the attachment will be a button titled Install. Install it and the app will now be on your device:)

Another way I've found is just to have a friend use titanium backup to backup the app+data. Then have them transmit you the backup files that Titanium Backup creates. Then use your Titanium Backup installed on your phone to restore the backup.

I've found this a great way to install those free apps on the market that for whatever reason can't be installed on the Prevail. Example of this is RedLaser or GasBuddy.

Keep in mind that some of these apps may cause conflicts and/or instability . Then again , they may not . Only one way to find out . Research it or try it yourself . ;)

The reason I found my method is I went to DL the March Madness app where you pay $3.99 and can watch all the games. I couldnt find it. So I tried again with my Prevail and found it. WTF? It says only compatible with Iphones, Ipads, and certain Android phones. So I thought how the hell can my simple prevail be compatible with the app and not my Sony TabletS? So I tried my method and surprise surprise it works fine.

Yeah , some apps work fine even though they say that the are incompatible . You just have to check and see if they will work

I've found a lot of apps that will work with CM7 ONLY because they were designed for CM7 . Some carriers block certain apps too . You've just got to try them and see . You can usually get around the blocks and install the app to see if it will work with the ROM you are running . If not , do like I do and keep a CWM backup of either CTMod or CM7 on your SD card . That way if you don't have access to a computer at the time , all ya gotta do is use CWM to restore the ROM that the app works with , download it and back it up with Titanium . Restore the ROM you were running and use Titanium to install the app . Hopefully it will work with the different ROM . :D
