Tips to limit data overseas.

I'm traveling to Japan next week. I purchased a 300mb data plan for a ridiculous amount of money for my new S3. I plan on using it for navigation. This is my first smartphone, and I'm worried about background apps and other thing like auto updates eating through that 300mb. I've only had a few weeks to get to know my device and I'm looking for tips to limit any data usage other than maps/directions.

Just stop your apps from syncing, go into settings, accounts & sync and turn them all off. Japan has loads of free wifi spots though so leave your wifi on... you might be able to get an app that tells you where they are so you can use that and save your data.
