Titanium Backup - Accidentally converted an app to system

Hi When I was using Titanium Backup I accidentally clicked and converted Dolphin Browser to a system app. But when I bring up the long-click menu to convert it back again, the "Convert to user app" option seems to be missing. If I look on other (real) system apps the option is there, but it seems to be missing for apps that I've converted to system myself.

So how can I safely convert Dolphin Browser back to a user app?

I'm using Titanium Backup PRO 5.5.2.1 (currently the latest) on a rooted HTC Desire HD, and I'm pretty sure S-OFF.

Uninstall, remove backup files, reboot, re-install, backup again (but this time better).

Hi paroariax, and welcome to AF

You could try this procedure.

* Back up the app, if you want to save settings and bookmarks (and don't have a backup)
* Uninstall it (should be no problem if you are S-Off)
* Reinstall from the market
* Restore data only from your Titanium Backup of the app

There may be a more elegant solution, but that should work.

Or if you are S-Off you could simply try moving the dolphin apk from /system/app to /data/app using Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. Take a nandroid first if you want to be safe (I always recommend that when messing with /system), and if there's a problem try wiping the dalvik cache from recovery.

I would test that procedure myself before posting, but my /system partition is rather tightly optimised for my ROM, so I don't have a lot of spare space for experimenting

I tried uninstalling and Titanium Backup told me it couldn't find the apk. Could this mean that I'm not S-OFF after all?? Surely if I can convert an app to system then I must be able to convert it back again??

Edit: I have the Android Revolution HD ROM installed, and according to it's XDA thread you need to be S-OFF to install it, so surely I must be S-OFF??

you might have to flash back to stock rom, after making a backup, then flash back to the custom rom, and then restore your apps that way, just when you make your back up using TB, just exclude dolphin browser, that might help.
