Titanium Backup advice please

Fishyweb

I have a Sony Xperia S, rooted and running ICS. It has started becoming very laggy lately. I've heard that doing a factory reset can help in such circumstances.

I want to use Titanium Backup (free version, preferably) to make a backup so that rebuilding the phone after the reset is quick and easy. What is the best backup mode to use? I.e. I guess I want to back up as much as possible, without backing up the cause of the performance problem.

Thanks in advance for any help...

I would just go ahead and do a full backup then selectively restore apps and their respective data. Maybe start restoring the apps you use most. If the lag issues return, uninstall or freeze the last app that was installed and see if that helps.

This has turned out to be problematic. Each time I attempt a backup, the backup process hangs, always on a different app (sometimes the first, sometimes almost the last, other times somewhere in between). The TB knowledge base suggests disabling the backup of market links if a backup freezes, but this has not helped. The only other suggestion it makes for hangs is to change a setting that is only available in the Pro version - well, I'm not going to update to Pro when the app doesn't seem to work for me!

I've tried submitting a support request to TB three days ago, but I've had nothing but the automated response.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing my backups to hang, or how I can go about obtaining a response from the Dev?

I had installs on certain apps hang on me the last time I did batch restores. It seemed more likely to happen with larger apps that didn't come from the Market. TB itself seemed to lock up every time. I ended up rebooting the phone each time and restarting the process (restoring uninstalled apps). I also messed up my phone trying to restore settings (I guess from the previous ROM), so I would stick to apps/app data/market links and leave settings alone.

It's comforting to know I'm not the only one having problems with TB. :( Sounds like you got further than me, though, in having made a backup you could even attempt to restore from!

For the record, my backup failures seem to occur on just about any app, big or small. I only have about 2 apps that did not come form the Market, both small, and I don't believe that it has hung on either of those yet.
