Root [TMobile] Disable OTA update notifcations?

eqisow

Lurker
I have an F6 on D500v10b that keeps notifying me to update to 10h. I'm not sure I want to because I'm afraid it might break Wi-Fi tethering, which I finally have working thanks to the Slim Stock "rom" on these very forums.

Assuming for now that the update isn't safe, has anybody figured out a way to disable update notifications on this phone? I've looked at guides for other T-Mobile and LG phones, but the D500 isn't exactly the same as any of them.

On the off chance that it's enough alike, long-press the notification. IF you get an "App info" button, press it. That'll take ytou to Application manager for the app making the notification. Clear cache. Clear data.

That won't stop it forever, but it'll stop it for while. The only permanent ways are to update or to disable the update app (which is a bad idea).

I just wanted to say I appreciate your suggestion and if I ever get a chance to try it out I'll report back on whether it works. I haven't been getting any notifications for the last couple of days and all I did was delete the update file from cache. The first time the phone re-downlaoded it within 5-10 minutes, but so far deleting it a second time has kept it silent.

Why would disabling the update app be a bad idea? That's really what I wanted to do, but I wasn't sure which app was responsible. I was thinking I could re-enable it later if I needed to.

App info shows that the culprit is the Google Services Framework. Apparently clearing the data for that app is a bad idea and messes with your Google accounts, so... I dunno.

When I disabled notifications for the app, it started popping up in it's own window instead of just being in the pull down menu.
