Tmobile Service in Charlotte NC

Can anyone let me know if they have Tmobile in the Charlotte, NC area and if the service is good or bad? Thinking about changing from Verizon. I can save quite a bit by switching but don't want to switch and end up with poor service i.e., dropped calls etc. Thanks in advance.

You might check out Sensorly's coverage maps. They are created by the Sensorly app that some people install on their phones -- so where they have data, the coverage tends to be accurate. The only issue is if there are no (or few) users that have the app installed and reporting information back. Just a quick note: the T-Mobile 3G maps include HSPA+, the T-Mobile 4G maps show LTE.

I live in Charlotte and service has been good--some areas stronger than others. Generally data speeds have been great. Switched from Sprint and I've been very happy.

I live in Charlotte and the service is great. I usually get anywhere from 15-25mbps download speeds on "4G" HSPA+. LTE is also pretty much laid out all over the metro area. I switched from Verizon back in April and I have to say that I like T-Mobile's service better in the area. Plus it's cheaper.

The service has been pretty good in Charlotte. However, I've been having signal strength issues today. I usually get 3-4 bars at my house, but right now I have none. Has anyone had issues like this today?

Yeah there have been a lot of issues with service today. I've had 'No Service' at my house all day since around 1pm this afternoon. T-Mobile says it's because they're upgrading towers. It just recently came back on.

Thanks for the replies guys. When my contracts run out I am really considering the switch. Just don't want to regret it since I would be giving up unlimited data on 2 lines with Verizon. Decisions, decisions :-)

Find a cheap phone for t mobile and get a prepaid sim, run it for a while, before canceling your current cell carrier, that way you can make sure the coverage will work for you.

Are you more interested in phone calls/dropped calls? or data speeds and reliability?

Any unlocked gsm phone will work for basic calls but if you want great data you need one with AWS for hspa + and LTE, or if LTE is not a priority then dont worry about one with LTE.

Hi guys,

I'm in the same boat. And I think the question should be: WHERE in charlotte do you live and does TMobile offer grerat service? I am in the Piper Glen (South Charlotte) area and I checked out: Coverage Maps | 4G - USA - T-Mobile | Sensorly and it doesn't list very good 4G coverage. So, I am wondering where people that posted they have this great svc live in Charlotte.

I currently have a GN2 with Sprint and, Sprint can hardly hold a 4G connection in my apt (Piper Station). I have had enough of this trash service and am ready to switch. Please help me.:p

I live in the University City area but I do travel all over the metro regularly. I'll go ahead and tell you the service is better than Sprint in just about any part of the area. I just got one of my friends to switchover from Sprint, he lives in the Ballantyne Area and says the service is much better now. I don't know if they changed their coverage maps recently but usually if you live in the areas that are shaded darker green, then that's where you would get the absolute highest data speeds. My best ever in the area was at SouthPark, got 27 down, 8 up on LTE.

The only issue that could affect your coverage my be the type of house that you live in, some buildings are harder for cell signals to penetrate than others. So for that reason you would probably have to test out Tmobile for yourself. They do have Wi-Fi calling though which eliminates the issue for those who have trouble getting service inside their home.
