To anyone using google calendar and the gtasks app...

RustyWriter

Newbie
Hi,

I switching over to Google from Outlook and gtasks is sync'ing with Google tasks and Google Calendar in a browser but not the Google Calendar on my Android phone. Anyone else see this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rusty

EarlyMon,

Thanks but I don't really want to move to another calendar app and read only...I'll keep it mind though!

Thanks!!
Rusty

Check out "GTasks: Todo List & Task List"

Sounds like what you want...

Btw - in your calendar settings, probably under account - you do have tasks set to show?

EarlyMon,

This is what I'm using (GTasks) and it shows up in Google Calendar when brought up in a browser just fine, however, GTasks do not show up in the Google Calendar app on my Android phone. Yes I have Tasks set to show. I'm not sure what is wrong...it's making me crazy, lol.

Try clearing the calendar cache?

And the main cache from recovery?

You got me on this one.

Anyway, if that does not work, try the calendar I mentioned earlier purely as a troubleshooting step - won't hurt anything to install, look, and uninstall.

EarlyMon,

A question for you...all my gtasks from my phone are in my online Google Calendar. Online the tasks live in a calendar named Tasks. However, on my Android phone Google Calendar app there is no calendar named Tasks. Calendars cannot be created on the phone cal app...they can only be created in the online g-cal. However, it already exists there so... I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I use Google's online calendar and tasks on my PC. On my Android phone I use the Google Calendar app and the GTask app. If, on my phone, I add a task to GTask it updates the online Google Tasks and Google Calendar. The online Google Calendar keeps these tasks in a Calendar named Tasks. However, on my Android phone the Google Calendar app does not have a calendar named Tasks and it does not show any of the tasks input into the GTask app.

Is this the way it is with you or, do you somehow get the tasks input into the GTask app in the Google Calendar app and, if you do, what calendar are they in? And, do you know how I can fix my setup?

Thanks,
Rusty

I understand how Google calendars work, understood the complaint.

So, for you, I installed Google Calendar.

There is a Google tasks under the account in Google Calendar -

It doesn't work.

It does work with Business Calendar.

Jorte is another popular calendar app.

I understand that you want to stick with Google Calendar and not install a different one.

In such a case, wait for an update and hope that they fix it.

Or try a different calendar app.

Sorry that's all I got.

Thanks for all the trouble you went to!! I appreciate it. I've been trouble shooting it for days now. I'd like to find someone who's been using the GTasks app and the Google calendar app and confirm that they have the same problem (yes I see that you did...so no one is using this app combo...no one at all cause it doesn't work?). I'm not giving up yet...I mean come on...NO ONE has a working/sync'ing calendar/task application for Android? It's a pretty basic function...smart phones have been around for a few years now...? Thanks again for your efforts!!

No trouble, you got me curious. :)

Fwiw - you'll run into the same exact situation with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync tasks - on a phone, they're read-only on the calendar and you have to get another app to get that far.

I don't know why tasks are so difficult - I blame arcane programming by Microsoft and Google. :p

I think that the only people using the combo in the overall sense must be using a more advanced calendar.

I think the point (though I'll admit I don't rely on a calendar/tasks app) is that alternatives DO exist. You're just determined not to try them? (correct me if I'm wrong, I only scanned the thread) :thumbsupdroid:

I just decided two weeks ago to drop Outlook (plus syncing.net and topsync) which has been the center of our (me and my wife) world since 1992. PLEASE...point me to 'alternatives'!!! Google seemed like a good choice but I have not switched us from Outlook yet. I've been testing the Google alternative for about 10 days...overall it's okay except for this issue (so far anyway...I haven't looked at the 'Contacts' end of it yet). I don't mind paying (I was paying almost $200 a year for the 3rd party sync applications alone). The only thing I'm determined to do is find a better solution (and test it for a while before I commit).

Perhaps I shouldn't admit to it but I was a programmer (UNIX, C++) for 20 years before I retired in 02...well my title at the end was Manager of Information Systems but...a fancy name for old programmer who won't go away, lol.

Wish I had a solution but as usual I just jumped in with a stupid comment on a subject I know nothing about.
Sorry Rusty :thumbsupdroid:

OK, that's a different light on things.

Check out "Todoist: To-Do List, Task List"

Premium is $30/year.

Is this more of what you're looking for?

I use gtasks and google calendar app and I can confirm tasks do not show up on the calendar app.

Two unimportant differences from what was mentioned before:

1 - On pc, my tasks show up a little different than yours apparently. Mine show on the side in an area labeled tasks. I gather there may be a setting to move it directly onto the calendar somewhere (that's ok I personally like it where it is)

2 - When I open google calendar on android and navigate to hamburger / account name… I have a similar listing of items to display like events etc, but no option for google tasks is shown like Earlymon's screenshot. There must be some software version difference or setup difference somehwere.

But those differences don't really matter…
….Everyone agrees (myself included) that there is no capability to display google tasks within android google calendar app

The next best thing IMO (I realize there are different approaches/preferences) - You can create a gtasks scrollable widget on your homescreen.. choose list: "all", sort by: "due date". Assuming you are caught up to date on your tasks, the things due today are on top of the list (actually the tasks with a time assigned for today are first ordered by time, the tasks with only a date assigned for today come after that). If you want to find things scheduled later than that you can just scroll down to the date/time that you're interested in.
For my personal style that works much better. Things that have to happen at an exact time go on the calendar. Things I need to fit into my schedule go in the tasks. Since there tend to be more tasks than appointments, if I cluttered up my calendar with them I'd probably forget a few appointments.

By the way, Google tasks only holds a due date. Any time that you assign to a task within gtasks lives within gtasks only (since it does not fit within the google tasks data structure). So the best you could possibly hope for from ANY calendar app that syncs with googlle tasks is to display a list of tasks for the particular date without any sorting by time at all… far inferior imo to what you'll get from the gtasks widget that sorts by time imo.

SoCal will sync tasks - at first I could sync over multiple devices but ran into a snag. I've always preferred S calendar but it won't sync. Still looking for the easiest and best solution. This thread is 6 month old but curious if there has been any updates that I haven't discovered.

I recently found "UpTo" calendar and it is the first calendar app that has been reliably syncing to Google's calendar. this app has the cleanest display I have ever seen, with the option to see a Full Day in Full Screen mode, a week, a month, etc....

* Calendar * UpTo - Calendar and Widget - Android Apps on Google Play

Another one that "seemed to" work most of the time, but never did work with Yahoo's calendar is:

* Calendar Jorte Sync - Android Apps on Google Play

this app's display is harder to read, it displays the calendar in a much smaller area on your screen.

I realize I'm late to the game here, but I picked up GTasks not too long ago and was having the same issue. I decided to search on the subject which brought me to this thread. I couldn't find any way to get it to work with the stock calendar app on my phone or the google calendar itself, so I ended up just using GTasks to view/manage my calendar as well as my tasks. The GTasks widget can also display Calendar entries and Tasks all in one list. I'm sticking with it as it's exactly what I need, and the widget is functional so I can scroll/view all my calendar/task items, and also check-off tasks straight from the widget. I'm happy.

So anyway, I just wanted to add my input in case someone can find it useful because like the OP, I also spent way too much time researching and trying different things to get this to work with the stock calendar and google calendar - all to no avail. In the end, it shouldn't be this difficult or aggravating to get something so simple to work with the stock app or google app.

Hi red5ive,

you wrote that you can see your calendar in gtasks. Can you please write me if there is some special setting for this? I cannot see it in my gtasks Thank you
