To buy or not to buy?

So, who's getting one?
I'm seriously tempted - I've been on an 18 month contract with a Hero since December 2009 and I'm now allowed to upgrade. I've seen a lot of complaints that it isn't a significant imporvement over a Desire, but when compared to the Hero it's just light years ahead to me! Surely most people with a Desire will only be 12 months into an 18 or 24 month contract?
I've looked at the DHD and it's too big for my tastes.
What other phones are people considering as an alternative?

I am very tempted with this phone as well. My contract is due to finish at the end of May with Orange and would serious consider this phone after reading numerous reviews on the web.

What I can't decide is should I get the Incredible S or the Desire S?

I am in exactly the same boat, have been in an 18month contract with a hero since November 2009. To be honest I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't anything drastically new from HTC, but as it is I'll have to make do with either the Desire S or Incredible S.

I also can't decide between the 2, my friend has a Desire HD and I think it is just that little bit too big. However, I think I'm right in saying that the Incredible S is slightly smaller? Read an interesting review on it here at techradar:

HTC Incredible S review from TechRadar UK's expert reviews of Mobile phones

It does well, but annoyingly they haven't fixed the battery issues, and they seem to be advising that the Desire S might be worth waiting for instead. Anyone know when the Desire S is going to be available for Orange UK?

I am in the same situation too - ready for an upgrade from my Hero in May!

Wife has had the HTC Desire (on my recommendation) for a year as I have looked on enviously...

What are the main differences between the Desire S and the Incredible S?

Unbelievably for some reason Orange aren't going to stock the Incredible S!! But they are getting the Desire S in April...

The main differences seem to be the screen size (IS is 4 inches, Desire S 3.7), and when the Desire S comes out it will be running a more up to date version of Android but apparently the Incredible S will be getting the update at some point anyway.

For me the IS seems to be perfect, not quite as big as the Desire HD but a bit bigger than the Desire. Just can't believe Orange aren't going to stock it, Carphone Warehouse are doing it but I think only on Vodafone. Am going to go down today to see whether they can do it for me on Orange.

Hi apart from the screen size the incredible s ships with froyo and old HTC sense were the desire s has gingerbread and the new version on HTC sense from the start

the incredible will get the new versions though.

or you could all wait for the HTC pyramid its the Desire hd 2 from what i hear with a dual core and a better screen

I was looking at the S, but I think next time round I want a larger screen, so sadly the successor to my best-phone-ever is off the list of potential updgrades.

For me the desire S is definitely the one I'll go for as soon as it comes out. I rushed to Carphone Warehouse to check out the Incredible (they do a pretty good deal on it, has to be said) but it's still a tad too large for my tastes. The screen on the Desire is still bigger than the Iphone, it's fine for general browsing and the odd video (which is what I tend to do) and still fits quite nicely in your jeans pocket. Apart from the camera being only 5megs compared to the 8megs on Incredible and the HD, the hardware is exactly the same. If constantly using the phone for watching video is a must then one should prob go for incredible or HD, if not, Desire is the way forward!
