Help "To operate phone remove hand"?

Question on my Brigadier when I make calls I get the message that says "to operate phone remove hand or something covering the phone". I don't have a cover on it and it doesn't seem to matter how I hold the phone. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I don't have a Brigadier, but I've used other devices that get thrown off by a screen protector near the proximity sensor. Do you happen to have a screen protector installed?
