Help To root or Not to root? All I want is the memory

Hi, Firstly, I must point out that when it come to Android, You may as well be talking about the stock market and fluctuations!

I have a Samsung Galaxy ACE, I get cheesed off about the memory of it. I have about 20mb left after my apps, a lot of the apps will go on to the SD card, but a few of the ones I use the most, Twitter, FB, Weather News, etc are on the phone. Anything that has to be there, maps & market etc I uninstall updates, 2 days later they're back.

I have read up about rooting, bit nerve racking if you really have no idea what you're doing. I'm not after ROM etc, because I don't know what I'm doing with it. I'm after the space on the internal memory.

I have read the guide that's a sticky that tells you how to shift apps without rooting, but that seems tricky!

Can someone make the guide simpler (shove some photos up to show guide) or is there an app from somewhere that will force aps on to the SD card?

Rooting is the easiest thing you can do. It's as easy as turning your phone on and off. You will void you warranty though but it's well worth doing.
Just follow chismays sticky at the top of this page under the heading 'Stock apps'

I've seen a clip on youtube of someone downloading superoneclick.apk, running it and then as you turn it on, you hold down the vol buttons (both and start before you turn it on). Then I have titanium app as well. It is really as simple as thta, if you only wan to do it for the storage?
My mob is 6 months old anyway!
 
hey matey i just got a guide stickied at the top of the forum that tells you how to get allot of memory spare it also links you to more in depth threads on each subject root is the first i think , its just putting a .zip on your sd, restarting the phone holding the menu button and then clicking apply update.... it is really easy
 
I've got superoneclick.zip on my computer, I think it's the 2.1.1, so I shove it on the SD, run it and then power off - then on whilst holding the vol up/down buttons together?
Then use titanium back up?
 
Put this on your sd card upd_1.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

The full zip as it is. Then turn your phone off. Turn it back on holding the home button and power button together till you get a menu up. Navigate using the volume keys to update from sd card and click home button to enter. Then navigate to the upd1.zip and click home(enter). That's it. reboot the phone and you are done. Check your apps drawer and make sure super user is there.
 
will the upd_1.zip rooting system work on all 2.2.1 or is it only for gingerbread??

also what is the diffrence in using this method and using the odin multi-downloader method??
 
No this only works on gingerbread and the difference is once you have upd1.zip and unroot.zip on your sd card you can root and unroot at will without the phone ever needing to be connected to the pc.

It's a far simpler method.
 
Bum bags - I'm on froyo (which I found out today means frozen yogurt)! I knew they were after desserts, but froyo confused me!

So on Froyo, should I use Superoneclick 2.2.1 by running it on the phone and then Titanuim app to move my files and delete the ones I don't want?
 
Yeah the free version of Titanium will do the trick. When you have rooted and installed titanium the first thing to do is run a complete back up,then you can start deleting system apps etc.

I have put this question too. I will show you what I have done. Root using the steps from :
[How to] Root Samsung Galaxy Ace on Android 2.3.4 XXKPH Gingerbread Firmware (after doing this very easy procedure you should see an app called Superuser or something like that in the Menu). After you rooted install Move2SD enabler from market, superuser will ask you if you accord the premision to use the root part of the phone; click on yes. After this install App2Sd from market; now you can move all the apps except gmail, maps (ps: apps like facebook can't be moved in 100 % on the sd card; for example Facebook is 7 mb on the phone, after root you will only have 3 mb on the phone and 4 on the sd; but almost all apps and games can be moved in a 90-100% on the sd). If everything is working well you can now uninstall Move2SD enabler and unroot : How To Unroot Samsung Galaxy Ace Running android 2.3.4/2.3.3 Gingerbread . Now you can move all the apps you have and the apps you will install after rooting on the sd card and you still have the warranty of your phone (root=lose warranty).
P.S.: After you move an app to sd ,you will have to wait 4-5 minutes before App2SD will refresh the "available memory".

Hope this helps... it worked for me, but it is not my fault if you damage or brick your phone, so save any important data and contacts before making this procedure (which is very safe but only 99% safe, so BE CAREFULL).
 
Is there any place where all the information about rooting and flashing can be found??..

Like what is a ROM, whats a superuser app, superoneclick, clockwork mod recovery, what is its use and advantages etc..
Someplace where all this can be found in 1 place....
