To Root or not to Root?

Bren S.

Android Expert
I am thinking of Rooting my Warp ..this would be the 1st phone I have ever done this with and I was wondering what besides being able to remove pre-installed apps are the benefits of Rooting exactly?

Realize that I am a 1st timer when answering this post...so I literally do not know anything about it.

TIA,
Bren

Well you can

-Wifi tether so you can have laptop internet access(wifi devices) on the go
-you can use the camera flash as flashlight
- install cwm
-and when available, install custom roms
- block ads on some free apps
-(I think) take screenshot of your screen...

And maybe more I don't remember right noe

being able to remove pre-installed apps

Being that you are a novice and the restoration options for the warp are limited to say the least and we have such a generous amount of internal memory, I would recommend NOT removing anything and instead downloading a utility to freeze those apps you would otherwise remove.

This will also allow for easy restoration of functionality should you find that an app you freeze cause issues with other system processes.

So is your Warp rooted?
What wifi tethering app works best? I assume this app is installed on the phone...but what needs to be installed on the laptop for this to work?
There aren't any custom roms out as of yet right?

What utility would be good for this?

Also I am assuming that I should back up everything on my Warp BEFORE doing the 1 click root. So what is the best way to back up my phone ??

Yeah I'm rooted

I personally use *wireless tether for root users* pretty simple and easy to use
BTW it doesn't need any programs on the laptop, it just broadcast wireless internet

No there are no roms yet but some warp users are working on them...

Did you back up your phone before rooting? And if so how did you do it?

I didn't and most of rooters didn't as well ...because it doesn't delete anything you have, it just install the superuser app and root your phone ofc...

I pretty much can say it's warm less...

But I will backup when it gets the time to install a rom...

How?
After rooting I can install cwm, with it I can make a backup of the whole phone and restore anytime
I can also install roms &themes

Rooted via 1 click root from here on the forums as of last night.

Have my wireless wifi tether, and titanium backup installed.

Question though...people talk about rooting this way blocking ads from apps? Do I need a special app for that because I'm not noticing being rooted in and of itself blocking any ads??

I've notice no one mention this, rooting your phone is basically giving yourself an admin rights to your phone. Think of it as you're the administrator in the Windows environment where you can install, un-install, config, and etc.

What utility would be good for this?

Search for "freezing" in the market. I'm sure there are many good free ones.
The one I use is "My Toolbox" from the makers of "My Backup". It's very inexpensive, but as I said, there are plenty of free ones to test out.

Titanium backup is by far the best program. Paid version is even better :)

Worst part: Getting the drivers to work

Second worst part: Figuring out where the batch files are fouling up

Hey bren i highly suggest rooting if you have b08c follow knoxvilles instructions rooting is very convenient to those who want more from their phone i suggest barnacle wifi tether my dads comp gets good speed specially after i changed thd build.prop to increase speeds BACKUP IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! Always have a up to date backup incase your always changing things being rooted will give you access to themes and ROMs (im currently making themes so let me know if you want one custom to you) titanium backup (find tbpatcher also) sd maid startup manager rootdim ROM manager those are key root apps that i use A LOT!
