to update or not to update(4.1.2)?

I just received my replacement note 2 from sprint yesterday after having technical issues w my first one, the home key was sticking and bringing up my recent apps windows. I'm currently using the stock Android version 4.1.1 but debating whether or not i should update to the most recent 4.1.2. I've heard mixed reactions to how beneficial it may be especially when it comes to retaining battery power. I've also heard of a security fix that it will prevent your phone from randomly dying, if anything I would update because of that and deal w the battery issue. Has anyone here not updated because of the bad reviews and to the people that have is it worth it minus the few new customizable widgets? Thanks

Updated Tuesday morning, no problems here. Battery seems a little bit better if anything. I would recommend a restart after updating if you choose to update.

Since you're going to have to restore it anyways, I suggest you just do a clean install of it. Reset to factory defaults, install update and reset to factory defaults again.

I prefer using the Android Recovery Console to do the factory reset. I tend to clear the cache as well prior to the reset as well.

I have no issues with 4.1.2 so far. But I am using Telus Note 2. Which is devoid of bloat and retains most if not all of the options found in stock. I'm in Canada.

Im just going to do the new update, if there are any bugs hopefully Samsung will do another one to correct any issues. I heard Samsung is reliable for updating their products, not sure how true that is i had an evo4g and htc did about 2 updates in the 2 years i had the phone. I can always do factory reset if I don't like it ive only had this replacement note 2 for less than 24 hours.

I wouldn't advise it unless you have a good data plan and know you won't go over your cap and be charged for over usage.

Go into Settings>About device>Software updates. Uncheck the WiFi only option. You should now be able to download the update via carrier data network.

I see you're a sprint customer like me have you had any problems with the recent apps window popping up when you hit the home key after the screen times out w the lock screen turned off? This is the second note 2 I've owned that's had this problem after the 4.1.2 update was done. It can't be a second defective phone it has to be a bug in the update with sprint phones.

Mine goes to lock screen every time when I tap the home button with screen off since the update. But I've read quite a few posts with people with this problem since the update. If I run across a fix I'll post it. :D

Have you tried calling Samsung? 888-987-4357

I haven't tried calling samsung yet. I put swipe lock screen back on my phone since the update and that seems to stop the recent apps window from popping up. I can also avoid the home key and only use the power button to turn my screen on with lock screen off so I have options. Hopefully my auto-combination works properly with this new phone I had incomplete and out of order txts w auto-combo turned on with my last note 2. Never had any of these problems w my evo4g and that phones well over 2 years old. Oh well thanks for the response and let me know if you find a fix.

That's probably why I have no issues. I use the swipe lock screen.
