Hi. I have an LG Optimus V phone (Virgin Mobile USA) that has problems with limited free space even though I don't have that many apps installed. Virgin Mobile support has been totally useless. I've been scanning the forum looking for ways to clean up some space short of rooting. Best suggestion I've found so far was AppTyrant.

Lots of good information here. Thanks to all that participate.

Greetings Tom, and welcome to Android Forums. :)

Have you tried deleting messages and clearing the cache? Perhaps that should help you.
If not, try heading over to your devices area of support LG Optimus V to get better answers and get tips & troubleshooting. Hope this helps, and enjoy the forums. :)

Yes, I cleared the cache. Hardly helped at all. I've been through the phone's forum here and it's been helpful but short of rooting I think I'll keep running into this issue.

There doesn't appear to be that much to look at. The file system is pretty much locked down. Without root there isn't much to see.

Can you point out any directories that I might be able to clean out?

App2SD says there are no apps that can be moved to the SD card. Anything that can be moved has been moved. Part of the problem is some large apps like Facebook, Opera and Google Maps (over 11MB each) that won't allow installation on the SD card.

The only way to get rid of those or moving them is through rooting your device. If you choose to root, then I must insist you think about it for a bit because even though rooting can be fairly easy, if one thing goes wrong you can brick (break) your phone and it will be reduced to an expensive paper weight. Please research rooting before attempting it. Also note that each devices has it's own root process and will not work with any other device. Rooting will also open new doors to you and give you full access to your device and give you full control. As well as the removal of bloatware and pre-installed apps. You can find out how to root your device by going here Optimus V - All Things Root Please think about it before rooting. I don't want you to root and regret it or brick your phone.

Thanks. I've been looking into rooting and I am hesitant because I'm not sure exactly what each step in the process does to the phone. I'd rather not have to root but if VM can't provide me with some things I can do to free up some space I might end up going that route.
