Too Many Contacts

Searched quite a bit for this particular issue, so I apologize if this has been covered.

On my SGS II when I try and set recipients for a text or when I try to add or update a contact I get a giant list of contacts from Facebook and email addresses from gmail. I deleted the FB account and when I check "Contacts" everything looks cool. When I check contacts in Address Book and contacts on Gmail everything looks fine. Where are these contacts coming from and how can I get rid of them?

Thanks for all your help.

Your phone download all your Facebook contacts as well, and depends on phone, it also merges the Facebook contacts and phone contacts automatically. There is an option in the settings of the contacts app to hide all facebook contacts. In the message app, there is also an option to show only phones with mobile numbers, so it wont give you Facebook contacts when searching.

Contacts looks fine, it's when I try to set recipients for a text or when I try to add or update a contact. I don't see them anywhere else, and I have no options that I can see to remove them because they only come in those two places. I am also getting email addresses that I used to respond to craigslist posts in both sections.

For sending a text, you have to enable the option in settings where it only shows mobile numbers. As for updating a contact, it seems you made a mistake in syncing.

Got to menu>settings>accounts and sync> and remove your facebook accounts, and clear the app data for the facebook app. Next time you log in, choose only to "sync with existing contacts".

"I deleted the FB account and when I check "Contacts" everything looks cool." I realize I made some kind of mistake when syncing, my question is how do I fix it?

Kosmic, take a deep breathe. Not sure how long you've had your device, but it takes a few weeks to become familiar with all the settings.:) I've had my EVO for almost a year and there are times I forget how to change a setting. :o
