I've lived with this phone now since it's release date at 6:00am that fateful morning and have downloaded (and subsequently deleted) a bunch of apps. Here is a short list of my 5 TOP APPS and then a short list of the other apps I've kept on my phone thus far.
#1. aTrackDog - This application is a must have for anyone who owns the phone and downloads apps. It keeps your apps up to date... period. You can also manage your apps from TrackDog, but you can do that in the phones own application settings, so that's nothing special.
#2. Pandora - Links instantly with your home computers Pandora account, and streams to the phone instantly. The sound quality isn't superb, but for what it is, it's perfect. Listening with headphones is excellent, the sound quality only degrades considerably if you're running it through your car speakers. The best part about Pandora is the application will pause when receiving calls, and you can run the app while simultaneously running others on the phone. Make sure you have an unlimited data plan, and it does drain a bit of battery, but it's so worth it. Also, the speaker phone on the phone is QUALITY. If you don't have headphones, but you're just in your office cubicle, the speaker phone doubles as a nice little radio. A+
#3. Advanced Task Killer (Free) - Does as it says, kills tasks at your whim. The best part about this application however, is if you want, it has the ability to kill ALL apps with just one click. You can also, under settings, put Task Killer on your "start menu" (icon bar) for easy access should you need it. This is a handy application for normal everyday users, or power users testing out their homemade apps.
#4. eBuddy - Excellent instant messaging application. Very easy to use, and works very well with the Droid. Make multiple connections with one account. Log in to your Facebook chat, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, ICQ, and Myspace. Features an auto-login, if you so choose, and a very clean G.U.I. Highly recommend for anyone on the move who can't live without their buddy list.
#5. LOLcats - I can haz cheezburger? Who doesn't like a little LOL in their daily life? From from LOL Cats, LOL dogs, Fail blog, Graph jam, Pundit Kitchen, There I fixed it, Engrish Funny, ROFLrazzi, Totally looks like, Everything Random, Passive Aggressive Notes, Photoshop disasters, and Picture is unrelated. This is more LOL than anyone can handle, and yes, they're updated daily! Now it's obvious why this is on my top five, I sure hope.
With all that being said, here are the others apps I've downloaded so far and KEPT on my phone.
a. 1337pwn.com XBOX Live Friends List - Yeah, the name is super long for the app, but it describes exactly what it is. Selectively add friends XBOX Live user names, and see their current status. Online, offline, playing which game, what they played last... ALL from your phone! You can even send them a message from your xbox live account. Yeah, it's super dork-a-licious!
b. AK notepad - Simple a notepad. Apply labels, search notes. Not much more to say. Works well with Droid so far.
c. ASTRO - Simple File manager for the Droid. Rename files, Copy, Cut, Paste, Search, etc. Utilize that SDcard to its fullest potential.
d. Backgrounds - Simply states it's a free wallpaper app... with a TON of content. Don't mind the ads at the bottom, they don't take away from the AWESOME wallpapers it offers.
e. DockRunner - Don't feel like spending $30 on a dock? OR, did you buy the dock only to return it after discovering taking off the cover every time is just annoying? Get DockRunner and rig yourself your OWN charging station. Shows the large time, weather, etc. All the benefits of a dock, without having to actually own one.
f. Dope Wars - Force closed on me once, but runs smooth most of the time. This is just simply a classic game that's been around since the days of the BBS. Any sentimental techies out there will get a kick out of the app, and anyone looking for a fun little "lemonade stand" type game, this is the one for you.
g. Express News and NubiNews - With these two apps, you can't miss a headline. Can't really say much more, they're both excellent, period.
h. Gmote - Access your desktop or laptop computer from your phone while laying in bed to play media files on your hard drive. Works great, no problems.
i. Google Sky Map - Sure.. it's cool... and yeah, it works.. but I'll be damned if I can figure out exactly what I'm looking at... so you ask, why haven't I deleted it yet? Because I'm stubborn, and I'm gonna figure it out!
j. gStrings - Essential for any stringed instrument. It's a tuner, and it works wonderfully.
k. I Tweet - I like it better than Twidroid.. that's just my personal preference.
l. Google Listen (Listen) - Listen to thousands of audio sources updated continuously.
m. Locale - haven't messed with this one too much yet, but it allows you to make different profiles based upon location, battery, calendar, contact, and time. Why, you ask? Don't ever have your phone go off in class again. Program your schools location, or better yet, the time you're in those classes. That's just one of many possibilities. Great application.
n. Myspace - I use my myspace for my band, so it's very handy to be able to update our page and post new shows right from my phone.
o. Phonalyzer - Had a tough time deciding on whether to put this, or LOLcats in my top 5. This app is awesome! Shows you lists and graphs of the following. Top Callers by minutes and calls. Missed Vs Regular calls. Outbound Vs. Inbound. Number of minutes per Time. Number of Calls per time. Call length distribution. Usage Summary. Need I say more?
p. Reversi - It's Othello, the board game. It works, no force closes so far... the A.I. is very hard to beat (in my opinion) but I like playing.
q. Shazam - Every hear a song and say "Damnit.. who is this?" Well.. Shazam can tell you just by listening to the song for a couple of seconds. Pretty fun and handy.
r. ShopSavvy - Scan a barcode, and find the best price. Since we all have come to discover the Droids camera isn't so wonderful, you can input the barcode manually, or ISBN. App is very cool though, even brings up local stores and with use of GoogleMaps will get you right where you need to go.
s. The Weather Channel - WONDERFUL! A+ Application! Add numerous locations and put as a widget on your "desktop". I love it! Great for someone like me who travels all the time.
t. Wapedia - Wikipedia without having to open your browser. Runs fast. Nuff' Said
