Top Android apps that you must-have

Hi, I'm planning to create my own Android app so I wanted to do a survey of the top 5 Android apps people basically can't live without, so I can have an idea of what people usually need, and what areas are still not explored (few or no apps on those areas), I will base the app I'll create on this info, so it would be much much appreciated if you can answer. Thanks!!!

Might I suggest that you ask for ideas on what apps people wish they had than their top 5 favorite apps. Your approach is only going to put you into competition with other established apps that already serve a purpose for people. Even if what you come up with is better you are still fighting an uphill battle.

So that said - here are two suggestions from me:

An app that is a podcast manager (ie downloads/plays/deletes podcasts automatically) that randomly mixes in music from a playlist in between podcasts (ie I finish a podcast it plays 2 or 3 random songs from a designated folder before starting the next podcast)

An app like DropIT to automatically manage files.

MY top 5 in no particular order are:

  • Nova Launcher for screen customization
  • FB Reader for ebooks
  • Boat Browser for internet access
  • MBTA Alerts for real-time bus schedules. I use public transportation to get around town.
  • ES File Explorer for the fiddilly bits

Google has analogs to just about everything on my list but I like having more options.

Oops, sorry kate...thank you.

Well I am going to see what those apps have in common, functionality-wise etc. and make sure to include those things into the app. Not what the actual app is for. But thank you for your input fdbryant3.

Thank you all for your information. I've got a few things I've noticed that the top apps have in common as far as usability, let's hope this goes how I plan and that Xamarin lives up to their name.
