Torrents on EVO 4G

yes since the evo data pla is mirroring the 4g/3g data plans(I beleieve) there is still a 5gb data cap on 3g.

Can anyone else chime in on the PROPER meaning of the word discography is.

Sprint rep I spoke to in the store today said that the $10 charge removes the cap. Maybe he knows, maybe he don't.

Seriously, you know what was originally meant. To everyone else, you know he's "technically" correct and he's not gonna have a sudden epiphany and apologize for not agreeing to your point of view. Everyone just drop it. (See i like just hearing myself t.... errr reading myself type too!!!)

Its still not an officially adopted term. Go up to 100 people randomly(not on here) and ask them waht discography means. If they know what it means. The average person probably doesn't even know what a torrent is.

So how can one be expected to know this definition when he is not an avid torrent freak? (Pun intended)

To be honest, I might have torrented maybe 4 things in my life.

With my bandwidth, I really don't need torrents like others do. Especially when you compare it to when I first got on the internet with a 14.4k modem, and then 56k, and was happy to download a 64kbps mp3 from napster in under an hour. (Yeah, I got into nerd stuff early on in life)

Yep. Guess I'm out of my league here because you don't have a good vocabulary, gotcha.

When you can contribute something than ill-informed definitio

The definition, given the context, is right on. Everyone in this thread, sans you, understands that. I am wrong a lot, and I will admit it.

You need not understand the reference to your name, as I'm sure others who do will get it. It's more for me than it is for you.

Lastly, when using the EVO 3G will not be capped, the cap will be lifted. And because the OP asked about being able to torrent on the EVO the "soft cap" doesn't matter. Again, you're talking about things that you don't full understand.

Ok alice,

Right... anyway, we're not getting anywhere with the discography argument, and it looks niether of us are going to change our minds on that.

Now about the 5gb cap, where, in writing, has it been mentioned there are no such caps on 3G with the evo, everything I've heard is it will mirror current 3G/4G plans, which is by far the most logical. But, it is still all hearsay until it is in writing, and the tos on the individual contracts is amended.

I swear I read it in multiple places here, and other blogs/forums, that said that the 3G cap is lifted as a part of the $10 charge - Sprint's way of softening the blow of the charge. We will find out in less than a week, I suppose.

Sprint confirmed this recently. I'll look for the link, but not too hard.

EDIT: Not what I was looking for, but they help.

Second link contains questionable information--we know that WiMax speeds (at least on the downstream) aren't capped, as they say they are.

Still all hearsay though, ill check the sprint newsfeeds later.

Hence my saying that it's not what I was looking for. I'll find it eventually. I'll have to look harder, though.

Sorry, but I found the semantics of this 'debate' too entertaining to pass up. I decided to register just so I could post a reply, though I have been lurking for quite a long time...

I tend to only post constructively or when it is something I feel I can answer a bit more clearly. To be clear (an redundant for a moment) I do not flame or pick on people. Nor am I a sarcastic person unless I make it blatently obvious I am taking that tone (I.E. /sarcasm, /sarcastic, etc.)

That being said, I need to make an internet analogy for a moment...

IOWA - While you are technically correct, a discography is a listing of the tracks of a given artist. The problem is with the ever changing English/American language. What something means in a given context is not what it always means. You should realize this, especially if it is true your first modem was a 14.4 (denoting your age and/or experience on the internet I presume)

I will include this as a prime example of my meaning -

mx7, Yes, very true that it does. Though the point was made that I needed to make.

I completely agree that the thread should continue. My apologies for de-railing/enabling.

It is my understanding that once you pay the $10 for the EVO that all data caps are removed from 3G. 4G has no caps, therefore any discussion about data caps will be referencing 3G.

While not 'official' by any means, this site has a close connection with most of the carriers. I have found it reliable with general announcement style information, though subjective type news is rarely unbiased.

As for the meaning of 'root' , that's not really english.... it's like trying to find meanings of chmod or dir or ipconfig.

And I understand the constant evolution of words, such as modem.

And bbs' were awesome! I owned one!(used wildcat!) And used another bbs for my email.(far more advanced than mine)

Also, my age is depicted in my profile.

So, did anyone actually have an app that you could use to torrent files directly to the phone or is it just two pages of a couple of morons arguing about BS?

Im curious because it could be something I could fire up while using the laptop on-site so I could watch a show (I like some foreign stuff that just isnt aired here) in my hotel room after work.

I've been using Swarm for a while now and its pretty decent. I use that to download mixtapes and PDF magazines to my phone, and Transdroid to manage my downloads on my computer.

How can you download a full album on the go using the browser?

You're not using your phone to the best of it's ability then because I did this a few days ago. On my way to the train for work I downloaded a whole 65meg album during my 10 minute walk. I had the whole thing unzipped and playing by the time I got the the first stop. Total time maybe 15 minutes.

Back on topic: 4g torrent experience

I have found 4 torrent clients
Andtorrent
dtor
abtc
swarm

Andtorrent is the only one I could get to act in a reliable way for 4g however it wasn't great. The download speed can reach 300-400 which is the fasted i got any of the clients to go but it is very up and down. It'll be like 285, 160, 23, 300, 0, 20, 80, 190, and will change like that every second. On wifi it is fine so it is just a 4g thing. aBTC, I could never get to go over something like 100 KB/s. Lastly i havent tried swarm or dtorn in a month or so but i dont remember having a good experience with them.

So basically all the native android torrent clients are crap right now it seems like none of them really know how to handle a 4g connection.

andtorrent is decent over wifi but so is my computer. So does anybody have any experience with any of those 4 clients or any others on 4g that tells of a good android torrent client.

Can you enlighten me as to the websites you know of that allow you to download full albums over http with full 4g speeds? maybe pm me if you cant post it in the thread. Not to mention how did you get the 4g to stay connected? Everything I have tried to download over about 10 MB the 4g disconnects and for browser downloads that means the download is dead. At least for torrents after the 4g disconnects it can resume downloading.
