Hello...

I'm purchased my first Android phone on Feb. 1, 2012. My old phone was an IPhone 3G, which I had for 3+ years. Since it had become so slow in doing everything I asked it to do, I went to the store looking for speed. I purchased the Samsung Skyrocket. It was great, but then I saw the Super Bowl commercial for the Note. Last week I exchanged the SR for the Note.

I'm trying to learn everything possible about Android and my Phone. I think this is a great place to do that!

Welcome to Android Forums.:) Check out the forum for your phone and you will find several folks settling in with their new Note. I would link to your phone forum, but there is are GSM and LTE versions, so I didn't want to steer you wrong. You can find those forums on the AF homepage.

I have the ATT version. The link would be great. Is there a place on this site for my very simple questions for Android system such as

* Should I install a virus protection app?
* Should I install a password protection-type?
* How do I pay for apps in the market?

I feel like an infant with Android and I'm trying to learn everything I can about the O/S and phone.

General Android questions are addressed in the Android Lounge (here).

This is a good read about Android security, it is very long but comprehensive (http://androidforums.com/android-applications/36936-android-permissions-explained-security-tips-avoiding-malware.html). Generally speaking, pay attention to permissions, only get apps from legitimate sources (Market, Amazon App Store, GetJar, etc) and read app review and you will be safe. If you have a question about an app or an app store, just ask.

Once you set up payment on your first app, google will store your information for future purchases. It is easier to IMO to set it up from your PC at http://market.android.com. Just sign in with your gmail account.

I hope this gets you started and enjoy your stay. :)
