Total noob at android

I will be getting an android tablet for Christmas. Don't know much at all about them, so I'll have some questions. Meanwhile, I'll be looking around to see what's available for it.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums! :)

Thanks! I've found some very helpful posts and threads already.

Do you know which tablet you'll be getting?

Yep. It's a generic tablet from China, called a Superpad. It's already arrived, and I made sure the battery works, and booted it up, and figured out how to power it off and on again. I ordered a fake-leather case with a keyboard, and I made sure the Superpad fits in the case, and that the keyboard works with it. That's all I'm doing with it until Christmas, though!

I also got a 32 GB flash memory card for it, but I haven't installed that.

The total price for all three items was $205.91, which I think is pretty good for a 32 GB, 10.2" screen tablet with case and keyboard. Later on, I can add another 32 GB for $31.00, if needed.

You could hang out in that forum for some pre-christmas tips and advice. There's also a general section in Android Tablets & MIDs - Android Forums that might have some interesting information to read.

I'll see if I can find a forum on the Superpad. Thanks for the link; I'll check it out!

There has been some discussion that the SuperPad III is the same as the Gome Flytouch II. I would say that they are very close but not exact matches so be careful, especially if applying patches not meant for your tablet.

Thanks. From what I've been reading about flashing the tablet, the possible rewards aren't worth the risk, at least not yet. If I find performance issues after using it for a year or so, maybe I'll give it a try. By then, I may have a different tablet and the procedure might be safer!

I mostly want to use the tablet as a e-reader, with the ability to play games. The GPS feature that comes with mine will probably be nice, also. Looks like the Telenav app should allow me to use the GPS to navigate with. Navigation is something I'm really terrible at.

Would have gotten a dedicated e-reader (color Nook, probably), but the ones out there now have screens that are too small, prices still too high, and they don't do anything else except read e-books.
