touch screen interface problem

Hi. I have an S4 mini (GTi9195) on O2 UK which is running android version 4.2.2. Every time i make a phone call and place the phone to my ear the screen intermittently changes to the date and time screen or the adapt sound screen despite me not doing anything.

Can anyone explain why this is happening?

If the screen isn't going blank when it gets near your ear, your ear is pressing things on a live screen. That could be a bad proximity sensor.
