Help Touch screen not starting up

Hi guys & girls,

I just got an S3 and am having a very frustrating time of things. 50% of the time it works absolutely perfectly and I love it. The rest of the time the touch screen won't start responding after it has been turned off - ie after locking the phone or making a call.

This means that most of the time I cannot unlock the phone without pressing the Home Key about a hundred times! When it starts working, it works perfectly until I lock the phone again.

Is this a common problem? Is there a fix? I bought it 2nd hand so I don't have the option of taking it back to the retailer.

Hope somebody can help!

Touchscreen or lockscreen. If your having touchscreen issue thats a problem. Id go back the retailer and swap it out for new 1.
 
Yeah return it (although test a factory reset first) which wipes the device (including internal sd)

By this, what do you mean? Bought it from a private seller (ebay, etc.) or elsewhere? If you can't take it back, I'd try a factory reset and if that doesn't solve it, I'm not sure what you can do.
 
Thanks guys, I bought it from a site like ebay which makes it all a bit tricky.

I updated the firmware and that seems to have done the trick, fingers crossed, touching wood...
