Touch screen only works when pluged into mains

HTC sensations xl the screen looks working but when you try to do anything it becomes unresponsive unless pluged into charger
 
Plug it in. Turn it off. Leave it plugged in for 24 hours. See what happens then. (Don't try turning it on until it's been charging for 24 hours.)
