Help Touch Tones Not Working

Old Member

Android Expert
I've tried to call Time Warner Cable and Verizon Wireless from my Galaxy Nexus. Both times when prompted to press #1 etc. the system doesn't read the buttons being pressed. Has anyone else encountered this yet? I know with some Dinc roms I needed to change settings to "long tones" but I can't seem to find that setting wit this phone.

BUMP. This is a serous problem. Has anyone other than me had this problem? I need to know if it's a defect in MY phone or if it is something that all Gnex do.

happened to me in voicemail yesterday, wouldn't let me delete a message with 7 or exit the voicemail box with *. i hung up, dialed in again, and it worked fine. i have not experienced this at any other time, but just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one having issues.

I have been able to press the buttons on several calls I made. I know it doesn't help much, just wanted to let you know its not happening to every phone.

Have only had to use tones once - today, when BOA called me regarding "fraudulent activities" aka buying a bunch of stuff on the Android market for the first time.

Seemed to work OK for me.

I figured it out! If you are having this problem, open the dialer, click on the 3 dots and select "settings". Once there you can select "DTMF Tones" and select long tones. It's fixed! Thanks to everyone that contributed! Problem solved.

^Ninja'd! (thanks a million!)

i have my voicemail setup to automatically send tones. it wouldn't work. changed dtmf tones to long STILL didn't work. I entered a pause in the middle of my password, and then it worked. apparently it was sending them too fast.

Menu > Settings > NOT DTMF at all. TTY is as close as I get.

I even installed and uninstalled a dialer to try and use that, but inside a call it reverts to phone app and that is where I need the longer tones.

Any ideas?

I believe I found the (ok, an answer)...

Under "Settings" and then "Sound"... look under the "Feedback" section for an "Audible touch tones" setting. Mine was turned off. In fact, it was greyed out so that I couldn't change it. Then I pressed the up-volume button on the side of the phone, and a bunch of settings became active for me to make changes. I selected that option in order to check it... and, after that, touch tones worked.

No guarantees, but this is how I did it. Hope this helps.

Galaxy S10 user in March 2020. This still doesn't work and I have to revert to landline when calling a corporate number needing touch tone key use. This is insane.
