[Blue Flame]

My wife as one of these tablets and it is running slow.

I think it is because went she goes into Hotmail a number of pages are not closed in Google.

I have tried to close these by pressing the X on the top tab but it just changes to another page, there must be about 6 or more pages open

Just looked up what I believe is your tablet and it seems woefully under powered. The processor and amount of RAM will really struggle with multitasking and Android 4.0+.
I'd avoid using a task killer but just try and keep cache cleaned.
