Help Touchpad randomly shutting off when streaming videos

Hi All,

I have the last nightly build of CM9 installed on my touchpad. Recently, it has begun to automatically restart when viewing videos. I will be watching a video on a program and the video stops. A popping sound (sounds like it's coming from the speakers) is heard and then the shuts off and reboots automatically (I don't need to press the power button or anything). It happens only when viewing videos but the times that it occurs are random. i could watch 20 videos and it could not happen or it could happen after only watching 1. Does anyone have similar problems or know of how to troubleshoot this? Many thanks!

I would try to flash CM9 FINAL in recovery (if available), after creating a backup and wiping both caches. Nightly builds are hit and miss. It's also possible you'll need to flash the latest gApps for CM9, 20120317, available from here: Google Apps - CyanogenMod (Do NOT flash the newest gApps, that's for Kitkat.)

You DO realize that CM9 is older than dirt, right? You might want to AcmeUninstall everything and start over with something newer. :D

It's also possible your old TP has a loose connection on the inside causing this, in which case no matter what you do, it won't help. Hopefully that isn't the problem, since it's difficult to open. I'm only aware of the camera being loose on some models.

What recovery (TWRP or CWM) are you running and what version? You might want to update that to the latest before starting anything. Older versions (like CM5) were known for causing file system corruption, the fix which was Acme Uninstall and start over. Are you seeing a recurring theme here? :D

Roland has a nice guide to do anything on Rootzwiki and XDA, depending on where you hang out.

Thanks so much for the help! I have the latest GApps installed.

I know CM9 is old lol. I've been putting off updating because I was too lazy to look up how to update while still keeping files and games and data.

Would the guides you linked help me retain my data (music, movies, documents, all my apps including their data such as saved games, kik messages, etc)?

I'm not sure how to check my version of CWM but I know I downloaded it when i installed CM9 about a year and a half ago. I have only had CM9 on the touchpad.

Booting into recovery will tell you what you have. :D

Plugging your TP into your computer, you can copy off your music and documents and after a wipe, Play Store should reinstall anything you had before.

O/W you could install Titanium Backup to backup your apps and restore missing apps when finished.

No guarantees, but Titanium Backup backs up your app + data. You might want to research that so you know what to expect. You just have to be careful what you restore to not screw up your new install. (Just missing apps + data is the preferred method.)

Also w/o the "PRO" version, you'll have to click about 3 times for every app you restore and I'm guessing you have over 100 of them. :D

Actually it's 20120429 according to Goo.im:

Goo.im Downloads - Browsing gapps

I think CM forgot to update their page. :D
