My husbands phone updated his Touchpal to touchpal X how can we go back to the older version of Touchpal ?

Only if you have already had an app called MyBackupPro installed first and made a backup of your apps. I usually do this before updating any of my apps.

To prevent in the future, go into the play store settings and turn off automatic updates.
