Trading in my S3 for Nexus

I've decided to trade my Galaxy S3 in for a Galaxy Nexus.

I'm waiting for the Nexus to arrive at my Sprint store, but before I go through with the trade, I was hoping to get some insider specs on whether or not this is a good move.

Personally, I felt the Nexus' design was much more solid feeling than the S3 and overall a lot sleeker. Not forgetting that it's running 4.2 with the AOSP Android OS I am finding TouchWiz to be quite irritating at times.

I could possibly purchase the Nexus and the S3, but if I had to choose just one I will probably go with the exchange and take home the Nexus.

Any reason I shouldn't go through with this?

That's a vary bad move, imo. You would be going backwards in terms of hardware specs. Have you considered rooting your S3 and putting AOSP on it? That would solve the main issue you seem to have with the device.

I thought about rooting, but I'm not very good at it. I attempted it on my USCC Moto Electrify and successfully rooted, but never flashed any ROMs. Many of the guides I've seen are aimed at experienced root users so it's hard for me to follow. :(

I know I'd be going backwards in hardware, but from what I've seen in comparison between the two the Nexus seems to perform just as good as the S3.

I don't play a lot of games on the phones. I mainly use it for texting, GTalk, social networks, and quick Google searches.

I'm willing to try rooting (and flashing an AOSP ROM) if you could point me in the direction of a layman's S3 root guide. :D

Yeah I have to agree I would not pick up the Nexus device that Sprint offers. The Nexus 4 is Google's latest phone and that was released toward the end of last year, the one Sprint offers is the previous Nexus which is well over a year and half old (as far as I know Sprint or Google has no plans on releasing a CDMA version of the Nexus 4).

So you're basically trading down in terms of specs and hardware over the S3.

There are plenty of videos on Youtube and also check out XDA forums on how to root your S3. It's fairly easy to do as long as you take your time and follow the instructions.

Rooting is pretty simple once you do it once or twice. Same with flashing a ROM.
Dragonslayer95 or anyone else who has rooted/installed a custom ROM on the S3 can take you through the steps one at a time. :)

The S3 is a much more superior phone compared to the Galaxy Nexus. With the switch you made, you're jumping backwards a whole year of technology.
