Traffic Data from Google

Lurker
Im trying to build an app that will incorporate traffic data. Apparently, there is no way (or at least no reasonably easy and convenient way) to get the raw traffic data from Google Maps Javascript API v3. Even if you could do it, doing so is likely to violate some clause in the Terms Of Service for Google Maps.

Does anyone know of a service that can provide raw traffic data for free that I can build into my app?

Traffic Message Channel is a common source of such information.

Of course, Google is using the GPS location of its users to determine speed and congestion, so that's probably why 3rd-party usage is restricted to client-displayed values as in Maps.
