Help tranfering files..sd(phone) to pc

i am trying to get my files off the sd card, the 4gb that came with the phone) to get a new 16gb card. i've tried windows mobile media, and the kies software newest version, and nothing seems to get detected... i got the kies off the samsung site for the galaxy s.. i figured the drivers would be the same..

just plugging in the usb cable to pc doesnt do anything except for charging.. i looked in windows explorer for a mass storage device, but nothing.. any ideas of whqt i am doin wrong?
 
plug in the cable during the first few seconds of the device powering on. your PC should detect something. otherwise, the easiest is probably to take the card out and put it into smth. else. it's FAT formatted
 
Make sure that you have the USB Settings set for Mass Storage. Go to Settings - USB Settings - Mass Storage , and try again. Once you do that you will get a message on your phone asking you if you want to connect the mass storage.
 
its on usb mass storage but nothing pops up for me on the pc


and taking the card out everytime i wanna puts pics on the pc from the camera or transfer video movies back n forth seems like a little more work than what i wanna go through :(
 
anyone else just plug in their phone and hardware wizard pops up?? i've been looking for drivers but cant seem to find any. i uninstalled my usb mass device driver and rebooting, they reinstalled but it still doesnt even recognize the phone mass storage.. tried with debuggin on and off with mass storage selected and auto, and kies.. tried on 3 different pc's does it matter if i did a lvl 1 root?? anyone else rooted this and still connect??
 
ok . here's what i had to do.. my pc would read the card while out of the phone and in a sd card adapter but would not when it was in the phone... the card ran great in the phone as it should....

to fix this.. i took out the 4gb card that came with the phone... put in another card from another phone.. powered up the phone.. let it go through all that media scan til it completed... plugged in the usb to the pc.. and voila .. it connected mass storage device via usb and now had a usb icon on top of the phone.. i viewed the files just to make sure i wasnt excited about nothing and it worked.. i disconnected the phone.. reinserted the original card from the phone powered it back on and let the media scan complete.. plugged in the usb and voila now it works..

dont know what happened but since day 1 from metro i have been charging it usb and it never occured to me to transfer files, i just been using it as a charger..
hope this helpes someone else having the same problem as it has cost me 2 hours on the phone with samsung (i asked for the wep key btw LMFAO he said that was a metro thing, figured no harm done lol) 4 hours tinkering with the phone.. enjoy
 
^ tried that theres a usb thing at the top of my phone but my computer does not recogonize it as a mass storage device
 
what os u have? i was sucessful on win xp sp3

is ur phone selected as mass storage device in the phone settings?
 
So yea i decided to make an account here because this phone is still frustrating me. I still cannot connect to my computer. I had the Optimus and it connected fine. At first i would connect to the computer using the indulge after trying maybe 2 or 3 times and it would finally read it. Now it gives me some crap about the hardware isnt being recornized. Ive tried to download the driver from the other thread at it aint working either. Grr. :eek:

yeh my wife has the optimus and i thought, wow same micro usb cool.. well NOT lol cause it dont work with the lg cord
