Transfer data from old phone to new phone

Hello,

I have an old LG G3 that I want to replace with a Galaxy S8.
I used the SmartSwitch App while connecting the two phones to the same USB cable, but it didn't transfer the call log and text messages history, not to mention WhatsApp's history.

I tried using MobileTrans in demo mode, it's not worth the effort, it doesn't do anything. I also looked into Dr. fone, but both require a payment, I'm looking for something that I don't have to buy. Why should I buy a software when I'll be using it only once???

What free software on a Windows 10 PC or App on the two phones can I use to perform a complete transfer, even if it is in two stages?

Thank you,

Google Backup & Restore should always be backing up apps & app data. It's not 100% infallible, but it's pretty good. Smartswitch is really geared toward Samsung phones... so the fact that it didn't move some things on your LG phone doesn't surprise me. But I use Pulse Messaging and not the stock app: so my messages won't vanish if I move phones. Photos & other personal data are on the microSD card, as well as backed up to Google Photos and OneDrive.

That pretty much leaves your call log... and how much do you really depend on that? Not sure about that one...

Try the Google "restore from an old device" or whatever it's called where it turns on Bluetooth and gives you a matching code and then 4 coloured shapes and numbers.
It failed for me after several attempts, and this was my third fresh device in a month. Google Backup and Restore has been absolutely rubbish for me, so no faith or respect for it, but with a Samsung you may have a chance.

You could use OneDrive, when I changed phones, it worked

I tried backing up WhatsApp to Google Drive and I can't find it. It also doesn't show any change in the storage size.
I included videos and the total size of the backup was 1.3GB. I can't find that on Google Drive.

You are right, I don't really need call logs, but text messages would be helpful, if I can keep that.
