There are lots of back-up suggestions in this thread from March 2016...

Backup! Backup! Backup! NOW!

Backing up Contacts is easy, as mentioned in the thread, by just ensuring that they are all sync'd to your gmail account, along with calendar, etc: I would not rely on Samsung Switch to transfer stuff to another make of phone. One tip that is not mentioned in that thread that is now available, is if you install Google Messages on your phone you can set it as default and it will copy across your SMS and you can sync it with your Google account and your messages will be restored on your new phone after signing in and installing Google Messages on the new phone.

smart switch will only work if you are going from a different android device to a samsung device. it will not work the other way around unfortunately.

okay so what programme should i use to transfer data i only want to transfer my messages contacts call logs and apps everything else is on my sd card

i'm using an app called sms backup and restore to transfer my messages and call logs is this okay to use

sms backup works great. i have been a samsung owner since the note 3. but before that i owned several htc phones which i have used sms backup to save my text messages. i'm not sure what other apps that are out there that will save other forms of data, unfortunately.

for my contacts can i export them to my sd card then import them to my new phone via my sd card or does this not work

are there any apps to transfer contacts across to my new phone or can i just do what i mentioned in my post above

anyone please help can transfer messages and call logs but not contacts

if you have your contacts backed up to google, then all you need to do is sign in to your google acct and your contacts will be there

like i said google does a great job of this
anyone please help can transfer messages and call logs but not contacts
like i posted earlier sms backup works great for text messages.....not sure on call logs though. never seen anyone ask that or have i come across an app for that.....sorry.

sms backup does call logs as well

i have backed up my contacts to my google account so fingers crossed everything should be working when i get my new phone
